I want to upgrade my small stock manual side view mirrors to the larger 01 to 04 mirrors.. but I want to keep it manual. I've seen threads and products for other vehicles where you can convert manual mirrors into power mirrors, but is there a way to convert power ones to manual?

The reason I ask is because in my searching, it's so much easier to find power mirrors and I'm having a hard time locating manual ones.

The other side view mirror question I have is in relation to the 2 types of manual mirrors I've seen. I currently have the ones where you physically have to move and position the mirror itself while the style I prefer is the one that has a knob to change positions inside the cab.

Did they change the manual mirrors in the 01-04 body to only have the interior knob or were there ones like mine where the whole mirror is shifted?

I'll drill out my tweeter sails (or whatever their technical name is) to accommodate the knob, that's not a problem. I have found some manual mirrors listed on online junkyard websites, but I'd hate to order "manual" mirrors from a place like carpart.com if it's not the knob style

The 01-04 manual mirrors with the joystick are shaped differently than the 01-04 power mirrors. If you want the bigger ones you just gotta push on the glass to where you want em.

Wiring them up isn’t hard, I know you out of all people has the skill to do it haha

Why limit yourself to just Toyota I saw something about Dodge Durango mirrors being good change.

I do so like my Electric Mirrors to readjust things after my work Truck get serviced or I would be 30 minutes crawling in and out.

If you use the electric mirrors 01-04 the housing snaps in place and will fold away.

This part is fixed and doesn’t more once in place and there is NO adjustment.

So a car wash will NOT effect the mirror.

As stated the inside mirror has adjustments with a click that holds it in place.

So once adjustment is made this part doesn’t move.

Haha it's not the lack of skill that makes me want to avoid it, it's ridiculous desire to keep as much manual on this truck as I possibly can

Am I understanding the first part of your comment correctly in that I can manually push on the electric mirror face to put it in place and it'll hold that position?

I had not heard that! I looked at other mirrors last time I went to the junkyard but I limited myself to trucks.. I'll do more research and spread out my search criteria, thank you for the tip on a dodge Durango!

I like the idea of a fold away.. do the manual mirrors not have that option?

Yes. It's not good for the linkage but as long as you aren't doing it everyday it'll be fine.

No. The Joystick mirrors do not fold.

You do need to use caution older plastic parts get brittle and break when forced

A few mirrors that broke the adjustment linkage got held in place with Gorilla tape so the silicone could cure

So the easiest thing to do is just manually push on the electric mirror till its in position, you'll physically click it, there's some resistance but it'll move. Just don't push too hard cause I've read on here you can break the mechanism

Also, welcome aboard new member

Yeah but like you said the joystick mirrors seem like a cool option too but then again I think the joystick mirrors are a little smaller than the 95-97 mirrors

They are, that's what I eventually ended up buying. Only drawback is they don't fold up, but honestly I haven't been in a scenario where I absolutely HAD to fold em in

It's a fairly straightforward swap, find the parts is the difficult part.

The tweeter sails pop out from the inside, be really careful the plastic will be brittle. Don't use a metal screwdriver, get plastic trim tools (auto parts store shelf or Amazon if you don't have them)

Behind the sails are three bolts, support the mirror with one hand and use a 10mm socket to remove 3 bolts. Fieldgoal punt that mirror right in the taint because it's already cracked and has rattled down the road your entire ownership of the truck.

*DISCLAIMER* DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM ONLY SHARING MY OWN PERSONAL ANICDOTE

Get a drill and high quality, sharp 17/64" bit (that's what I have alot of on hand due to work) and pick one of the 3 holes, I chose the top one on the driver side and the lower hood-side hole on the passenger door because that's what looked liked what needed to happen when I eyeballed lining em up. Now use your selected drill+bit combo and ream the chosen holes out diagonally to turn it into an oval shape.

Then install the 01-04 manual mirrors, they'll be nuts instead of bolts and if you get the mirrors from a junkyard, make sure you grab the associated hardware.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
The thing to remember is if you force the plastic gears to hard they will break then the mirror just flops around.

Till you tape it in place or use other means to secure it from moving.

Often times I made one working mirror out of a few!
