Everything for the wipers goes directly into the cab aside from the ground wire. So if you hurt something it’s in that very small 10-12” section.

I really can’t stress enough how important it is to check ground continuity with these fenders. Grounding issues will create some really strange problems.

Damn! I didn’t know Tacomas had auto windshield wipers that’s some next level stuff. I don’t even have auto headlights haha.

Not sure when you put the inner fenders in, but I did a PSA back in October about not only being super careful cutting the old stuff out, but also, when you match drill the driver side. I had to pull the inner fender off and unwrap the wiring harness from the big rubber grommet at the firewall out, I went to the fuse box to make it easier. And then I went through each wire, right next to the firewall, to finally find the wire I nicked. It sounds like you could unwrap and trace the wiper motor wire down from the upper cowl(above the master cylinder) to the firewall to make tracing it easier. Still a pain in the ass, and a lot of time
And I swore to myself I didn’t nick anything as I was trying to trouble shoot it:censored:

Can’t say mine was the same but I had this issue and I had to replace the wiper motor. Something was wrong with it and it did that exact issue, not sure if mine would stop eventually since I would just pull my wiper fuse.

I've reverted to this technique a few times now. I have found that they will stop after a few minutes. Just extremely annoying when the wipers aren't necessary.

Speaking of weird shit happening... Last year I randomly had a bunch of weird shit happen all at once. All dash lights on, Lost brakes, headlights went dim, truck not shutting-off, noises etc. Took it to an Auto Electrical Specialist and they fixed it by adding a redundant ground from the battery to the inner fender. Haven't had an issue since. :fingerscrossed:

When you pull the fuse do they stop where they are at or will they park?

Stop where they are. It kind of becomes a fun game after a few attempts.

It sounds like a malfunction with the park mechanism in the motor assembly.

That wouldn't explain why they come on with the switch off

I thought it was only a problem with them not shutting off.

Yup. Poor grounding can do many things, even as far as killing alternators, starters, fuel pumps, modules etc. Your main ground to everything in the entire truck comes from your inner fender. The mounting points for the fenders are NOT enough to carry a good ground throughout. Especially if painted before install. The only reason I caught mine is because I checked charging voltage with my new alternator and it was in the mid 13’s. Otherwise all seemed fine.

    Yes
bypass the body panels / inner fenders and ground everything to the frame

Ran a 1/0 ground to the inner fender and another to the frame. Along with cleaning up any paint at the mounting points. Honestly I just kept playing until I got under .5ohms throughout the entire truck. One thing to note is I did powder coat my fenders so that played a roll. But paint will also do the same.

You might be on to something. Even if it’s not the exact reason my windshield wipers won’t stop I’ve likely got related issues.

JD bushings installed the other day in a reman toyota rack. It’s so nice having my steering work as soon as I turn my wheel now. No more dead space! Also there is a special place in hell for who ever designed those stock bushings
