1956 Ford two door. It was 10 years old when I got it, two years later I traded it for a 1964 Galaxie two door hard top.

My Dad had a VW Rabbit Diesel pick up (if you can call it that ).
That thing was so tiny, but he loved it. I think he got around 40-42 mpg.

1998 Honda CR-V in fire engine red. Slow, sluggish, but extremely reliable and honestly pretty darn versatile. Loved the built in card table in the trunk and fold away seats. That thing was built to camp!
I still sometimes want to pick another one up and have it as a pure beater/surfboard hauler. They can be had for pretty cheap and are extremely easy to work on. Super spacious for the size and very good on gas.

I never took a photo of it. But it was a 1969 Firebird convertible. Dad found it in 1974 for $500. It needed some work. The owner had let it rain on it with the top down. It had a dent in a fender and was in need of new paint. Dad knew a guy going through a divorce and bankruptcy that fixed the body and painted it for $200 if I paid cash. I pulled the seats and replaced the carpet myself.

Would have loved to keep it, but $1/gallon gas combined with 6 mpg and a 16-year-old working part time for 1970's wages just didn't add up. I sold it for $750 after a year.

Not my car, but it looked like this. Only not quite as nicely restored.

‘63 Mercury Comet (used), rebuilt the engine at age 16 with the help of my much wiser brother who was 17 and had just finished rebuilding his 68 Chevy Chevelle 396 SS. Followed by a brand new 1972 Pinto, a used ‘67 Mustang convertible- traded for a new 78 GMC Sierra 1500 truck, a new VW Rabbit, new F150, the list goes on and on lol.

Excluding the cars I learned to drive on (1999 Suburban and a 1998 Expedition), the first ride I owned was a white 2007 Mazda3 I bought shortly after I moved back to the USA from Toronto. I absolutely adored this thing until, at around 150k miles, a relative borrowed it and totaled it. Sadly, the pictures I had of her were on an ancient 2007-era flip phone, but this picture is pretty much what she was.

I still love this interior. I would trade the touchscreen-laden world we live in for a new ride with something like this.

I once replaced a headgasket on a 87 supra (my 2nd car) and re-used everything except the gasket itself. Walked into a dealer and bought a headgasket, SST 10mm inverted hex tool for the headbolts, a 200$ factory repair manual and nothing else.
Put it back together and it ran fine for another 2-3 years and then I sold it to a friend. It literally never occurred to me that I could be (should be) replacing valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and things like that. I was a complete newb, but it cooperated and allowed me to build some confidence early on. What a great car

My first car was a 1976 Volvo 164e 4 door sedan in maroon, I bought it from my parents when I was in the Army.
2nd vehicle was a 1980 Toyota Hilux 2WD standard cab & bed, 4 speed that I bought from a co-worker of my dad's, and I drove it for 11 years.

I test drove one of those and really liked it but the ones around here were all prone to rusting out around the rear wheel wells.
