Here's another take on this that works great for smaller dogs. I made a platform that rests on the shallow subwoofer [woofer, get it? :)] in the back and has a nose that rests on the ledge of the front console. Does not interfere with opeing the console lid. Held in place by the nose and against the seatbacks. It also lifts out easily when needed.

Our 22 pound Jack loves riding there. He also often sits with his arse on the platform and his front paws on the console so he can look out the windshield. This arrangement also makes it easy for him to come down and sit with his mommy when he wants.

Platform is made out of plywood and I got some outdoor entry floor mats at Lowes, cut pieces to size, and glued on with contact cement. Note that the sub is attached to the LATCH point with an adjustable quick release strap. Also note that I had already removed the stupid rear console and jump seats. That stuff was just in the way.

Two years ago, before I drove off the dealership lot, I knew those jump seats had to go. I arrived at this thread and studied everyone's post about their dog bed as I wanted a "trunk" inside the cab. I don't have a dog, but my girl friend does. Channeling Samuel L Jackson now, "my girlfriend is a vegetarian, which pretty much makes me a vegetarian." [substitute "dog owner" for "vegetarian."]

Okay, so I may be carting a few small dogs around once in a while. I'll post a photo of those critters later.

Anyway, to the build. I'm what you might call a "design on the fly, rough carpentry" type of dude. I don't have a shop to do woodworking or even a garage. I did most of my cuts by clamping the plywood or 2x6 to the picnic table. I sat in my beach chair next to my truck and drinking a few cold ones many days while staring at that area of the truck with the doors open and designing my build in my head. The build process took many hours because of the many walk-arounds I had to do during the process and making sure I didn't end up gluing and screwing myself into a corner, so to speak. I could've used some help in lifting and aligning but I made do.

I noticed most people who used wood put their dog beds together with 2x4's. I wanted the extra height in my storage bins, because as you can see in my profile photo I am carrying around a Kimbo on my back, so I need the room to store the jackstands. So, I used 2x6's to get a little extra height.

The box is glued to the Tacoma's storage box, and secured like someone else did in this thread a few years ago with bolts through a piece of plywood that secure to the truck's body where the jump seats used to be secured, I think. Can't rightly recall as I removed the jump seats right away. Then there are three screws in triangle formation above the bolts.

There are only two 2x2's supporting the front end (fixed) side of the platform, and they are both close to the center of the floor. I only used the two support legs so that I could store more stuff underneath the platform. Most of the securing of that section you can see in the photo of the hinge; two screws on both sides of 4 hinges and one screw in each corner.

As to the hinges, I've had trouble with these before, and anyone worth his weight in woodworking will know that I did not align those properly. I did it the way you see in the photo to ensure a perfect alignment along the swing of that platform. The result, as more experienced carpenters will tell you, is that when the platform swings down into place, the bottom edge of that board rubs against the box, and before sanding that edge it actually prevented the swing from closing properly. Remember, rough carpentry dude here.

I left the wood uncovered and untreated, though I may paint it black at some point. I'm using a quilt that was given to me as the main cover so that I can wash it when I need to. I like the idea of carpet, but animal stink can linger and I didn't want that.

As for the measurements. I know the inside of the cab is 52", but an already measured and cut piece of plywood at Lowe's or HD that's 48" in length suited me just fine. You can't see underneath the platform from the windows so it works just fine for my needs.

Total cost of materials was $82.

    Hope you like my build.
    Cheers.

Here is my finished platform. I used a thin charcoal ribbed door mat rug from home Depot. I cut it so it covers the storage bins but can easily access them.

Here is my platform that was inspired by your design. Approximately $60 in materials and 2 hrs of labor. My 4.5 month old lab/pointer mix is a happy camper.

If I didn’t have to have the kids with me from time to time I might do this. Still thinking of setting this up so I can quickly remove it if i need to use the rear seats on my 4 door. My service dog might like this better … (thinking)

This is a super idea for when I transport dogs from the local animal shelter to rescues.

Mine very easy to remove, I don’t have it bolted down but it is cut to be tight. I use the front seats to help keep it in place. I used a 1/2” plywood, 48” X 22”. Let me know if you want me to send pics of it removed.

Acceess Cab Dog Platform.........The very first mod I did on my #2015 #tacoma #tacomaaccesscab was a dog platform. I did not want to take out the jump seats. Think grandkid car seats. So, after scouring the interwebs, I did this. My first 2 attempts were with Masonite, but I never quite got the platform to fit exactly right. This one does.

Here's a link to my YouTube video showing the basic concept and end result: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5b-hZMlCBiI

    1. I removed the plastic console between the jump seats. 1/4" plywood cut to fit. 48" long and 19" wide behind the passenger seat tapering to 15" behind the driver seat.

1.a. I sanded the rough edges with an orbital hand sander.

    2. I used a DeWalt DWST17807j tool box for passenger side support. #Bonus. I was able to put a bunch of mechanics tools in it. ***this keeps the passenger seat from going back all the way. I am ok with that because I am the driver. :) ***

    3. the Drivers side has a soft DeWalt tool bag I got as an accessory for buying one of their tools. *** The driver seat goes all the way back and reclines unimpeded.***

    4. I bought one 35"x22"x3" dog bed that fits nicely on the passenger side and another 30"x20"x3" dog bed.

    5. I had to cut the one behind the driver seat for length. I took the foam out first and cut only the foam. I rezipped it and folded the excess cover under the bed and put in place.

    6. Add Dax the Wonder Dog!

Future mod?? I may cut an exact replica of this using another piece of quarter inch ply, then separate them with a piece of "1 by" just enough to be able to slide a piece of 1x12 the length of the platform. I could then slide out the 1x12 and use it as a walkway to make it easier for Daxie boi to get in and out. For now Dax has a vertical jump of about 13', so he's not having too much trouble getting in or out. It took him a bit to get used to it though. #2015ToyotaTacoma #dogbed #Tacoma #TacomaWorld #overland

Apologies for the cross posting. I'm still trying to figure this board out.

Really, that’s great, I’ll have to try calling them this time.
I live chatted with them 2 weeks ago and asked them how to go about getting one’ same one as yours, or possibly without those 2 square cutouts, website only shows a gold one with big cut out for 2nd gens.
They told me they don’t usually do customs and they’ll email me back and lmk.
    Never heard back.
    Thx man, truck looks awesome!

Did you happen to order yours recently?
They have no phone number listed to call them, just an email or chat on underlandoffroad.com.
Did a Google search & found a different web address uloffroad.com that has a number to call.
