Right…but would Bilstein cover a CV axle or some other part if something were to go wrong?

I’m not concerned with the warranty on the shocks or anything themselves. Just the truck as a whole.

People have been running 5100s and you don't hear much about CV axles going bad because of the little lift these shocks give and if they do wear out more than likely the warranty is up anyways.

If you want to keep some rake and are dead set on the TRD lift, you can have it set on the middle notch which is 1.55"(same as 4th notch on 5100's). This will give a slight rake bit not as much as it did from factory. First thing to do is find our what your dealer will charge for the lift cause prices seem to range from $1800 all the way to $4000 but of course does include the grill and garnish.

Here's a recent thread on TRD lift (theres more to be found):

Agreed. The warranty is a warm fuzzy that it's easy to get hung up on. Ironically, the TRD lift installed at dealer doesn't come with the ECGS bushing that solves the most common issue with lifting these trucks.

I did the ECGS bushing when I had the 5100s installed. My 5100s and install was $1300 including the alignment.

20230128_172923.jpg Just got my truck done over the weekend. Bilstein 6112/5160 and Icon AAL 1.5". I opted for a 2" lift front. I forgot to take measurements before the lift but after, I got 36.5 driver front 36.75 driver rear, 37 passenger front and 38 passenger rear. Overload was removed. I kind of wish I had kept the overload leaf in for the extra 1/4 inch or however thick that leaf is because I wanted a bit more rake. Tank was full when I took those measurements. Every photo I took made the truck look like it was sitting nose high. I'm planning on getting "pizza cutter" 33s in a few weeks/months to fill out the wheel wells a bit. But enough talk, here's a photo with the lift on

Great move on doing the bushing.

..... and doubtful that would happen within the warranty period. My 2000 Tacoma CV boot made it 20 years (and over 300k) before springing a leak. I rebooted the original CV's and still going strong at 362k.

I'm glad you mentioned about the fuel tank. When my 2023 is 1/4-1/2 tank of fuel, it doesn't have the lean but at full tank it leans a little to the driver side.... make sense really. It does look a little nose high to me too but some folks would call that "level".

I tear a boot roughly once a year, probably from driving over grown logging trails for work.

I finished my lift over the weekend and I'm glad I didn't do the 2" notch in front because it sits a little more level than expected. Apparently I didn't get a full 1.5" in the rear with the HeadStrong 3AAL. I will say that's it's nice to have a little arch to the leaf springs. 5100's at 4th notch and no Taco lean spacer. Tires are 31.6" dia. Weight in bed is OEM bed mat, Lomax bed cover and a tool bag that weighs 35lbs.... so about 120 lbs total.

Front is 37" to the fender and rear is 38". I'm very happy with how stable the truck feels now. It is a little bit more firm and there are times a I miss the Cadillac ride that the Off Road shocks provided but the stability, lack of tires rubbing and the slight lift is a good trade for a slightly more firm ride.... no regrets.

Bilstein 5100s set on the top perch, 1 inch rear block, 1/4 shim up front on the driver's side, Sumo bump stops, ecgs clamshell bushing. Tires are 285/70/17s on TRD 4runner SEMA wheels. No rubbing or trimming, great power thanks to the kdmax pro 9 tune. I used the rough country for the calibration.

How does this ride being set at the top perch compared to stock sport suspension? I'm considering doing this on mine.
But it seems like bilstein and others advise against using the 4th or 5th perch due to ride quality degradation.

The ride never changed when I went from the 4th to the 5th setting. It's a big improvement over the sport's factory ride. In fact I think it rides the best on the top setting when I went to the 285s. I'm happy and been on Bilstein shocks for 4 years, also the same for our other dcsb Tacoma. You read things like that but I think people read something like the ride gets worse and run with it and really don't have any first hand experience.

I'm only on the 4th perch with 5100's but to me there is a slight increase in firmness in ride. I feel more bumps but there is a significant reduction in body roll when compared to my 2023 Off Road shocks. So I gained 1.5" of lift and significantly less body roll in exchange for a slightly more firm ride(some folks prefer). Since you have a Sport you may be winning all the way around with the 5100's. :)

That will do it. I've torn a few boots on my 4 wheeler doing similar. Sticks are tough on the boots.
