Looking for some assistance on an issue with my 2001 Tacoma- 2RZ AUTO 2WD SR5 EXT CAB. I did do some research prior on here and it looks like some of those issues were traced back to a ground. -My particular is not from my investigation. Grounds under the dash front to back checked out okay.

Back Story: I ended up having to replace my drivers side taillight assembly due to the assembly getting cracked. I opted for the cheapest thing possible on Amazon that looked like factory, ( Cheap China Knock Off). Great decision..SMH

The connector was not damaged and all prongs are in good working order etc on the drivers side.

I never verified the running lights were working and a friend noticed mine was out. I changed the bulb and then noticed I had a larger problem on the passenger side. I then put my meter on it and notice I have no power to the passenger side running light. ( Reverse, Turn, Brake Lights all Work). Drivers side running light does work, but just not the passenger. I’ve swapped known good bulbs just to verify that and also changed all fuses.

I then moved to checking grounds and they all seem to be fine on all three lights at the assembly where they connect at the passenger side.

I then pull up a wiring diagram and noticed the passenger is ( jumped off the drivers side socket). This makes since since there are 2 in 1 out at the drivers side socket. The ( Green then feeds back to the passenger side and while through that the bumper lights get their power. Then on the passenger side the “feed” is then tied in with the passenger side bumper light.

I can jump the drivers side connected (dual green to the single green )that feeds the passenger side and then everything works. After doing that I noticed the cheap Chinese Assembly had a ground on the assembly connecting to the passenger side feed (green wire).

My question is ( would this be an example of a 95.5- 00 light plugged into a 01-04). I know there are some differences, but I have been unable to locate a drawing to show the differences at the assembly. Everything that I’m looking at seems to be fine and in working order. - I have a more “quality” light coming to assist in verifying.

Thanks and I’m advance. I wish I had pictures but I’m not near the truck at this moment.

I am currently having that issue with my 2004 Tacoma. My passenger side running lights are getting no power. Did you ever get the issue figured out?

Gotcha...everything else was working. I pulled the plug off the back right taillight to check the 12v . I am in the middle of replacing all the tail lights and headlight assemblies. I realized the bulb was out in the front right so hoping that was the issue. Do you know anything about mixing LED and incandescent bulbs with a LED flasher unit, can it be done? Thanks for responding!

It should work just fine I run 4 LED Turn signals and 2 Incandescent Bulbs with no Problems The Napa EPL- 35 (?)flasher

a marker light out upfront will not effect tail lights like a bad turn signal bulb

I'm pretty sure there is a difference in the pinouts on the plug between the 95-00 and 01-04. It uses the same plug, but the wires go in different places. I remember I took a trailer wiring harness off my 99 which worked fine, but when I put it on my 01, it messed up the lights. Took me a while to figure out that was causing it. I took it off and never looked back. So I never did figure out exactly what the difference was.

I have the same issue running tail light on passenger side not working. Also the passenger side license plate light not working. All other light on passenger side work. I seen some frayed wires in the same area. I repaired them. If I unplug the passenger side light assembly, the drivers side goes out, and passenger side license plate light starts working. Any advice would be appreciated.

It sounds like a bad right tail light.
    We could test it.

Ideally, you want to use a test light. But a voltage meter will work too.

Unplug the passenger side tail light.
Check pin #2 for 12v (battery voltage with tail lights ON)
Test pin #3 for a good ground.

You can also jump pin #3 and #6 to test the ground.
If the DRIVERS side light comes on, the ground is good. (Remember, Taillights need to be ON)

Take a small piece of wire and stick one end of the wire in pin 3, and the other end in pin 6 of the connector.

Couldn’t figure it out, so can someone please tell which pin and wire is for the running light from the passenger side so I can just jump a wire from the driver to the passenger
