So I tried going about this the way that Adventure Taco did it and I managed to break the bottom metal plate on the bushing, and now I can’t get the bushing pushed through the eye. What should I do from here? I’ve tried pushing just the middle part through the eye of the LCA but no dice. We don’t have cups for the press either, we have bearing bodies that we put a plate on top of and turn into a cup and there is one that is the perfect size for this. At this point I’m out of ideas on what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I’m stuck at work until I get this fixed.

That’s what I was thinking but then how do I remove the outer sleeve of the bushing?

Without something to press with I think I would use a Sawzall and go nice and slow and make two relief cuts, maybe more, through just the sleeve.

Now the larger bushing won’t push in because it looks like the eye somehow became an oval and not a circle. This is a nightmare. Any more ideas?

Beat it back to round. If you can support it from the inside with the old sleeve or anything or may help.

Go slow, you don't want to over do it.

Maybe use a C clamp and try to clamp / squeeze it back to round

F--k, dude. I feel ya! Been in that situation more than once where I went in thinking I was totally prepped, only to have my vehicle mock me as I call a tow truck to carry it off to someone with better tools and more than a YT tutorial to go by. Hope you make it home!

This is how I’m leaving her tonight. Got a hub cone from our balancing machine and used the press to get it back to round. Went ahead and put the bearing back in the freezer. With all the heat I’m putting on this eyelet I’m just hoping it doesn’t fail on me once I hit a pothole. I still have a ball joint on this control arm to do and the other side tomorrow :boom:

Dang I had so many issues also. I tried oem bottle jack like everyone else. And it ended up bending the arms to where they no longer mounted back on my truck

Got everything figured out this morning just to find out I installed the first bushing backwards. Still no cups so I can’t push it out without damaging the bushing.

Looks like you're in a decent shop. Find something else that will work 'close enough'? Or maybe autoparts store rental, depending on what exactly you need?

Anyone know if I can order just the smaller bushing from this kit? Or if there is a press sleeve kit out there with the perfect size for pushing this out without damaging it? At this point I’m tempted to just put Napa lower control arms on while I figure out the bushings in my free time

That’s been the play so far, for some reason the last crew who ran this shop before we took over “lost” all the specialty tools. No ball joint service kit, no press sleeves, etc.

I messed a whitline up pressing mine in, and bought a 2nd kit, so I have a spare.

I'll send it your way for free if you want.

I was also going to suggest buying the cheapest aftermarket autoparts store LCAs you could find. Just to get you back on the road

been there, done that. what a fkin pain.

I used a little heat and a rubber mallet to get the eye back to a circle. I also put grease between the bushing sleeve and the LCA, hoping that it won't be seized if i ever have to do it again.

I had to use a screwdriver and hammer to get the sleeve out of the LCA. I scored the sleeve first with a hack saw. Mine were in there for 190k and fused together.

had to dremel/file the inside to make it smooth to take in the new bushing.
