New recall.

We drove for years without TPMS and now its a recall? Can't people just check the air pressure in their vehicles now and then?

 

Isn't recalibration just airing the tires to the proper pressure and then pressing the TPMS button?

 

Somethin clicks there. When I bought my 2011 it took the mechanics like a half hour to get my '08 wheels n the new truck to sync together

 

Oh no man. We cant check tire pressure. Too much work. With the automatic doors and such these days why would you check tire pressure? I think I need to get that on my first gen now...

My 05 didn't come with TPMS

 

But, but, but... it's cold out there.... it's wet out there.... I might break a nail.... Why should I check it? It looks round, so there must be enough air in the tire....

 

i know right?? and it feels like theres enough air to me..i pressed it with my finger and it didnt move.. but i dont wanna press too hard kuzi dont want to break my nail

 

30 minutes with the programming tool sounds a bit long , but not too long. When I had my new aluminum wheels put on, with new sensors, it took them about as long to get each sensor scanned and inputted into the ecu for it.

Since us old pioneers put our life a great risk to learn driving without TPMS...for decades , i wont worry about it. Oops , my bad, we had a TPMS back then too .....Mk 1 pressure guage, but they lacked a fancy light and symbol, only a number.

As a kid I would've thought things like aribags,TPMS,ABS,and other traction controls, were going to make things better. I think they do ...sorta. More like people got lazier and more brazen with these new found safeties, like they can drive at the edge w/o consequnce and just sue if anything goes wrong.

Part fact part opinion.... TPMS was made because some idiots in the 1990s were in Explorers and didnt check their tire psi, tires were marginally safe, low psi made em unsafe due to a blowout. Panic ensued as to no control possible , even in light of tests showing they wouldnt careen out of control.

I beleive in safety , I wont bypass my TPMS ,at some level it will help someone. I intend to keep using my psi guage to keep making TPMS look like the idiot-born/government intervention for idiots thing that it is.

 

no it's a little more complicated, every sensor has its own serial number, every vehicle has to be programed with those serial numbers. theres and sst that looks kinda like and old school game boy that syncs with the sensor and tells us the serial code, next we get the techstream and enter all the serial numbers in to the TPMS ECU, and BAM all done. pays 1hr at my shop
