Stock Speaker Upgrade

Along with a ********* mounting kit, I will be upgrading the stock speakers in my 2010 Taco CrewCab TRD and leaving my stock head unit. What do you guys think of these speakers below?

I just want a cleaned sound, maybe be able to turn it past 45 on the volume without it maxing the speaker out.

Also, between the two ********* mounting kits, which one is best:

HDP
MDF

 

I was personally upgrade the stereo before speakers. But those look okay

 

That will come next, but for now I know upgrading the speakers will give me much better sound. Do you guys recommend any other speakers?

Also, given the link I gave you, would you say that it is sold as a single speaker or a pair? The subject says "speaker", while the product details say "pair".

I guess my question now is, do I even need a mounting kit? Can I not just buy speakers and install them without some special mounting kit?

 

I bought the speaker adapters for my 2010 D/C from *********. And the front door panel would not go back on. The installer had to do trimming to the speaker adapters. To make the door skin go back on. My opinion is ********* sucks.

 

Depends on the speaker mounting depth. Most aftermarket speakers will require adapters, to allow the proper depth. Mr Marv will most likely suggest buying Hybrid Audio, depending on your price range. They will require adapters. Also, make sure to tell whoever you do buy the adapters from, whether you have the cup holders in the door. The earlier 2nd gens don't, but later does. That is why the door panel wouldn't go back on in the above post. Mr Marv is the man, I would definitely recommend him. He helped me out tremendously.

I vote none of the above... IMO a three way speaker is nothing more than a marketing gimick to sell speakers to people who dont know any better. A real 3 way set up would be at least something like a 6" or 6x9 a 3" and a 1" or something similar. Using a 1/2" supertweet and a 1" tweet is not going to make for better sound. Also those are not crossed over either so they are playing full range. For these reasons the best 3 way speakers are limited to AT BEST being mediocre low budget speakers... but to the uneducated consumer more speakers must mean better sound right? No. You want the best quality speakers you can buy and the way you tell them apart is by listening to them... no post, no stat, no review will tell you which speakers you like the sound of better. We can give some sugestions but the end decision should be made by your ears.

As a general rule Id suggest real components up front and coaxial for the rear, just like the factory set up. If you buy a speaker without listening to it first IMO you are a fool. Nothing accounts for taste and your own ears.

Some of the speakers you are looking at only can handle 35 watts power... you will burn them up with your amp install in short order. They are a waste. I also dont think you will see better sound than factory by just installing some of those speakers you have listed using the factory head either.

I made my own adapters using the stock speakers from the truck. Check out the pictures I've upload on my profile. There are 4 with brief descriptions to the steps of how I did it. Easy, decently quick.

 

I went with the Fosgates in my previous post with Amazon links. Yes, I took a look at the resellerrating for DCA and wondered how they even make it.

 

Yeah, I didn't haha. All of their positive feedback is false. Enjoy the speakers man, any decisions on your adapters?

Talk to Italyn Stylin, he made my speaker adapters, and for alot less than those taco tunes things.

Yeah ********* is expensive. You can get the exact same hint without their endorsement for cheap on ebay

 

I second this, it's why I bought from them.

 

I just cut out the original speakers and used that spacer. Saved me a shit ton

 

Once my door is on I dont even think about them. I paid 25.00 for 2 and made the other 2 off the pattern with MDF. I spray painted them and installed them. I dont know why I would need anything else in there. These things have 1 purpose, and that is to hold speakers. If they held the car together then yeah I could see spending shit tons on them, but as it is MDF works. Its your money, spend it how you like and be happy.

 

MDF is a waste of money IMO
