Ok so I have my cover off cleaned and almost ready to put back on. While I am in here would you all advise taking the throttle body off and cleaning it? I do not have the small gasket that I think is for the IAC (dont roast me if those are the wrong letters) and I do not have the metal gasket where the throttle body mounts either. Appreciate any advice. Also should I remove the 2 half moon pieces in the front where the valve cover screws on clean them an reseal those. I am seeing no leakage around those so was thinking about not even pulling those off.

I always replace those half moons they get hard and brittle with age.

Have you ever cleaned the throttle body??

I have used silicone on the throttle body often over the years.

    The IAC as well

Its not been cleaned that I know off I mean if I am careful I may be able to use the same gaskets but wouldnt know until I got in there. As far the half moons you recommend pulli g them cleaning them then repacking? This is the stuff I have to use20230202_162019.jpg

    That should work!

Those half moons should be soft and flexible not rock hard.

That metal piece is to run a real fine bead

The throttle body gasket can likely be reused in a pinch.

Here is my experience with the IAC gasket- I wouldn't use silicone/RTV//FIPG, etc.. Once you pull the IAC off, that gasket is a little finicky to get back into place on reassembly. I have had luck using a small metal pick to push it into position once it's close. You can reuse it, but just be careful to get it back into position don't just count on the screws to smoosh it back into place.

So you run the plastic tip into the metal piece with the wings close to the tube????

You really should watch this video. Timmy does an excellent job of covering the half moons and resealing everything.

That metal piece fits over the crimped end of the FIPG tube so you can turn the wings (think can opener) and expel FIPG from the tube. It's not for for applying the FIPG through.

When you remove the half moons pull then straight out, if you try wiggling them they can break very easily the part that’s in the heads,
If you clean out the throttle body remember there is always a chance you might end up with a high idle if carbon is built up under the worn spot that comes with age if you have wear

This is actually a very good reason to finish your valve cover job and button everything up, and verify that you did everything right. Then come back at the TB and IAC with the new gaskets. Just to isolate the two jobs so you know where you introduced issues if they arise.

I like this way of thinking and that also gives me time to order the gasket so I wont have any issues. Im just waiting in the half moon to dry. I pulled one an the sealant was still nice an rubbery so gonna leave good enough alone on the 2nd one

Sorry, I didn't see it mentioned that you have a 2.7.

There are vids of 2.7L on youtube. Just take pictures as you go and take your time. Not a bad job to do. My half moons were fine so I didn't bother with them. No regrets, yet.

Well job went well and was happy with what I saw under the cover. Looked pretty clean to me for 20 years old! So next I think I am gonna run a little seafoam thru the oil for a few miles before I change the oil. I have been slowly transitioning to full synthetic so this change will be full Castrol GTX Syntehtic. Then order the gaskets to clean my throttle body. Annnnnnnd like so many 2.7L my damn manifold has a small crack so dunno how much that is gonna cost.20230201_163714.jpg
