I hope I can get this thing assembled and figure out the software! I want to do some cool scene engraving on some jewelry boxes.

The finished easel I made for my niece for her birthday. Its got mistakes, but I kinda like it as a prototype. Most of the wood is pine to match the desk, the moving parts underneath are pine and oak and the stripe in the center is purpleheart.

Thats such an awesome gift. I've gotta say some of the best gifts I've ever received were handcrafted real wood items, real old quality metal tools, and the gift of being taught to hunt. Gifts that are able to be used and abused are what truly builds character, and while those $20 Xbox gift cards get a quick happy reaction, things like this that last are what kids who grow up tend to remember most when they look back on their childhood. Awesome job

I couldn't agree more. My all-time favorite gifts have been hand made.

Never point out your mistakes, we all make them. Most people will never see them even when they are looking right at them. They will just be amazed at the beautiful item that you made by hand.

I try not. Its hard. :anonymous: I got a lot of perfectionist in me which is problematic in some ways but also has positive motivating qualities at other times. Its a tough balance.

So true!!! I always thought I'd grow out of it. Guess it's part of my personality quirks.

    It's not a "mistake".

Each piece is handmade, so no two will ever be identical.

Besides, it's wood. It's a natural product, complete with "imperfections". ;)

Lol when I handed off my last table I sat and pointed out all the mistakes to the guy I built it for. His response? “Bud, I wouldn’t have ever seen that”

I’m the same way though. Those little oppsies that happen look so obvious to me that it drives me insane

The same thing happens with every baby blanket my wife crochets. She can spot where she got off on her count but no one else will ever see it.

The summer after I graduated high school my summer job was helping a carpenter add 1.5 stories onto his existing house. I still remember what he told me that summer. "It is not a mistake if you can fix it or hide it."
