That would be worth looking into. making sure the exhaust cam didn't get swapped with the intake. If that is even possible.

All the cams are different. Not sure how you can mix them up and be able to install. Here are my old ones.

 

I don't remember what the pockets for the buckets look like.. is it supposed to be squared off like such? Or is that contact from the lobe? Doesn't look like incorrect install as much as incorrect part possibly. Bro send your PayPal. You need a whiskey or two.

 

I've never seen an interference engine bend a valve due to being off timing. If a chain or belt breaks, yeah absolutely, but not if it's jumped a tooth or 5. It would just run like crap if it even runs at all.

pretty sure the clear pic you posted is the Passenger side. the exhaust cam is on the outside and to the left in the pic.

 

I did, well, Jesse and I tackled it together back in May of last year. Double and triple checked all fasteners under the valve cover and timing. It was rotating nicely by hand. And based on this video Jesse posted to YouTube a couple months after install, all seemed well then:

Not totally surprised this shop is blaming the install, but if it were out of time then, that would have been an immediate issue and presented itself all the time, not intermittently. Maybe a chain guide or tensioner failed? Cam lobes almost look like it got oil starved. Hopefully the shop will be able to provide a decent, detailed diagnosis of what happened.

 

Definitely not on a lightly modified vehicle I agree. It did happen to a guy in my car club though. He had the most aggressive cams he could get, set his timing belt 2 teeth off and that bent his valves. No joke, the guy was choked.

Total aside, or maybe a misery loves company story I dunno.
