I love the R3s as they're a lighter tire than my KO2s which helps gain back some lost mileage from winter blend. I tend to run slightly higher MPG in the winter than in the summer and can really gain some mileage on warmer days. I wish the new R5 came in a 265/75 but the only option is the LT3 which gets back into heavier tire category again. Hopefully Dunlop brings back that size in the Blizzak. At roughly 5,000 miles a year they could be R compounds and I wouldn't wear them out for years.

Since my wife's a teacher she typically doesn't have to be out in the crummy weather so I don't stress her tires as far as running a dedicated winter set. I have the Discoverer AT3 4S which have worn quite well. I know you didn't have a great experience with yours, but we have had decent luck with ours. I'm not opposed to running a more passenger car tire on the Jeep in the future. The OEM tire was a Michelin Premier LTX were much more on-road biased which weren't bad, but they were nearly dead at 35,000 miles which seemed wild for a Michelin.

This is my first year on the Firestone Winterforces. I've been pretty surprised by how well they have actually performed.
I have heard good things about both the Haks and the Blizzaks, but since I'll probably age out my winters rather than wear them out I really didn't want to pay for the Haks or Blizzaks.
I put some Yokohama MTs in the spring and had planned on switching to the stock Wranglers for winter. I managed to sell the Wranglers for a little more than the cost of the Winterforces.

Coldest place I ever was was Jericho, VT in January 1998. Doing a one week winter survival course. -15 one morning, but it warmed right up to +15 by early afternoon.

I had a lot more tolerance for cold then.

Fort Kent says expected real feel tonight -70.

Jesus. I'm off to the Caribbean where it's going to be....150 degrees warmer. That's not an exaggeration.

-11 here and falling. House is almost too hot. I turned the heat up a bit so I have a little headroom in case we lose power.
