Oh, anyone wanting to purchase a Magnuson supercharger system and having it installed? Must have a manual trans w/ a clean engine bay and willing to leave it w/ the vendor in Western AZ.

Edit, to the others who know that I have this system installed. The tuner asked me to free up the exhaust system. I was finally able to find someone to install a 2.5”, mandrel bent, Tig Butt Welded, 304 Stainless system. The system consist of a Good High Flow cat that I picked up from PPE (sorry but I think this Global Warming is for real or Mother Nature is F-ing pissed) two Magnaflow mufflers one 14 x 8 x 5 and a 22 x 11 x 5 muffler w/ a turn down at the end of the factory bumper on the right side. With this full length system I still have drone @ about 2200 RPM under acceleration. Anyway OMG what a difference between the stock cat (removed the 2nd / cleanup cat) and the OEM muffler and this system‼️

Does anyone know if theres a difference between a 2nd gen bottom end to a 3rd gen?

 

For my 09 I am seeing short block 11400-75381

For the 16+ I’m seeing 11400-75600

I am not sure they’re interchangeable, but I have seen good deals on used 3rd gen long blocks so I have considered picking one up. Also keep in mind the compression ratio is a little higher on the 3rd gen block. They are 10.2:1 vs 9.6:1

Hoping someday soon I will have a complete 2nd gen up for sale soon with approx 35k miles. Just having a hard time finding someone who can or has the time to do the heart transplant to this…
2006 5.3 aluminum L33 w/ updates & upgrades, O6 TBSS manifold, (supposedly the best OEM flowing cathedral port manifold) new 02 Camaro PS pump to relocate the Silverado 06 160 amp alternator and a 04 Vette AC compressor and harmonic balancer to move the accessories back 1.65” closer to the block for more room to mount a couple of small high volume (4000+ cfm) electric fans in a shroud to pull air through a drop in Mishimoto radiator. God i hope it’s enough to keep her cool…

 

I’ve been following the prices on car-part.com for a while now. I should of bought one pre pandemic when they were 1600 for a low mile long block. They seem to be 2500 and up now but with more miles. What deals have you come across?

I want to minimize expense and build a 2nd gen block. I found a deal at 400 for 2 short block cores. I’m hoping they’re the same but I think there’s only one way to find out.

Where did you read that? I heard something similar from an engine builder but he wasn’t certain.

 

A question was brought to me by @BassAckwards. Something related to why stiffer engine mounts would be needed. Then it evolved into where to find 2TR-FE upgraded engine/motor mounts and if 3RZ poly mounts would work. I figure this is a good place to share that for future references. Saving these for future use... now to find an upgraded trans mount for the 2wd base Tacoma. My shifter bounces so hard on rev limiter I sometimes miss it when trying to grab second.

 

Wish I had something to report here but will be nothing until this time next year... will be doing a manual to auto swap.

 

I’m probably going to end up giving those mounts a try and seeing if they work or how much modification they require. I ordered a set of stock mounts to compare to the trail gear ones

 

Does this require a full harness swap? I have considered this in the past as well. Very interested in hearing about this project

 

I haven’t been able to find many good deals for single vvti 2TR-FE, but there have been a few local deals that were decent for the later dual vvti version. I have gotten to where if I need to buy an engine, I think I’m going to buy a good running donor truck so there aren’t any surprises. Hopefully that doesn’t need to happen anytime soon though
