Also, I am iffy about camping. If it is going to be single digits and windy, or otherwise nasty weather, I will probably not camp.

Pat has spoken and his plan is now my plan! I'm off Friday and could get up that way earlier if someone knows of some fun in the area. I just grabbed Castle Mound site 17. Sites 14, 15, 16 and 19 all look like good sites.

We can do 2 vehicles per site, so as long as a couple of sites are reserved, we should be good.

I'm good with Castle Mound, but also not committing yet until we see the forecast. 10-day goes out to 2/13 right now and looks like fairly pleasant temps with lows in the 20's, but I don't trust it yet.

Doing some research on breakfast spots: Sunnyside Cafe looks good but possibly very small inside, Gimi'Brf looks good and specializes in pies?, Gathering Grounds is more artisan but looks freakin delicious, Revolution coffee looks like a small coffee costs $8; worst case there is a Perkins and Taco Johns nearby.

Another thing we could consider is camping at one of the sites on the Mondeaux flowage that @Camerasandcoffee mentioned earlier on Saturday night.

Doing some searching it does appear Picnic Point is open year round. Right now in the winter months it's first-come-first-served but they do appear to have a large group camp area that is probably ideal for our crew. No telling if we get it though. Links: USFS, Recreation.gov

Spearhead Point appears to be closed until May. Same goes for Eastwood CG, Chippewa Rec Area, West Point CG, etc.

Since both sites are Forest Service you won't need a DNR sticker. Interagency passes are good but not required and don't usually include campground fees (though somtimes can give discounts like the senior pass).

Cooper Dam campground has free camping but I can't make heads or tails of what is really there. Says there is a large group camp. I doubt we will see any hunters this time of year like photos/reviews online show. Might be an interesting spot to scope out.

Picnic point is one of my favorite campsites in the entire world. Or, at least the small part of it I know. My ex-girlfriend and I used to host an annual trip there every summer. We usually had around 10 or 15 people, and had a blast every year. We would swim and fish and played flip cup like it was an Olympic sport. :D

A few of us stayed there after one of the bayfield trips I believe. I would be 100% in favor of ending up there Saturday night!

I recall that being a pretty awesome place. I'd be up for the tif I were staying on Saturday night, but I can't.

I'm all good with Castle Mound for Friday. And Saturday unless we want to camp at picnic point that night. Im flexible either way.
@rubbersidedown did you reserve a site at Castle Mounds for both nights?

If you get it online, you can print off a confirmation and use that until you get the real thing.

I’n that case, I’d be happy to pay the extra charge for having the power.
Electric heat is a wonderful thing!

You better check that the power is on before you get your hope up.
