Im not a huge mazda guy (nothing they build catches my attention) but from talking to one of my customers that is a R&D engineer for them they still build stuff for drivers, not washing machines with a steering wheel.

It’s like they hate their trucks so much that they feel the need to come over to 3rd gen section, throw mud at our trucks and spread misinformation. I don’t get it.

The dyno chart backs up your statement. Toyota got a nice flat curve on the 4.0. Unfortunately not so much on the 3.5.

I watched the video of the “Car Care Guy” doing the timing chain cover oil leak repair on the Lexus. That is the 2GR engine, 3.5 liter V6 in the Gen 3 Tacoma. I had that leak repair done on my 2016 at the dealer. Man, that repair looks tough! Does anyone know how many of the 3.5 liter V6s develop this leak? He made it sound like they all leak at the same place, but he didn’t necessarily say they all wind up leaking. I’m asking, is this something that WILL eventually happen to the 2GR, 3.5 liter V6?

I always wanted one of these. 1989-1996 Taurus SHO w/Kawasaki developed V6 for Ford. .....This is what I would drop into my Tacoma if money was no object and if I could get the wiring and controls right.... (NOT) I can't imagine what my truck would be like with this under the hood. It's work of Art. I understand that Yamaha worked on the development of Toyota's ultra-rare GT 2000. (Feature car in: James Bond 007: "You Only Live Twice".)

Specs: 220-hp @7,200 rpm; 3.0-liter V-6; Torque: 200 ft lbs;in a non-descript Ford Taurus! For comparison: the Mustang’s new fuel-injected 302-cubic-inch V-8 was putting out 225 hp. The C4 Corvette had 250 horsepower under its hood. Kind of like the plain-Jane Buick Skylark's 455 GS's in the late 60s/early 70's that would blow the doors of the unsuspecting Chevelles on the street-strip in those days. The worst part wasn't losing: it was losing to a BUICK! :D

4.0 had better low power and torque

As others have said, boh are fantastic engines, just developed different.

I agree the 4.0 generally is better as it makes power lower... The 3.5 does not make peak power till redline... Not useful

Change the oil and drive, they should bothe last a very long time.

Im sorry but why would anyone drive at peak power? I’m running 650 pounds of extra weight, 33” E rated tires and lifted 2”. I barely go over 2500 RPMs with normal driving. If I need to pass someone I accelerate from about 4-5k rpms, plenty of power. I don’t get it.

From what I remember yes, pretty sure it was Yamaha.

I also rarely go over 2500. I think the difference on paper is highly exaggerated in conversation.

    Yeah.

I bet most folks that say “it doesn’t make power till redline” or something along these lines, never drove a 3rd gen.

Correct: as I recall, Yamaha designed, developed and built the entire engine for Ford.
