Got it. Wite-Out works good for marking. By leaving the shaft attached to the transmission I got the nut loose with a breaker bar without much trouble. The stud was damaged. A new nut went on ok with some cranking.

    Awesome!
    Good to hear.
    Another success story.

The fun part is the torque value (134 ftlbs) on that stake nut the first time to "ensure the carrier bearing is fully seated" then back it off .5 to x1 turn. Follow by torquing it to 51 ftlbs.

Skip the DS in the vice next time... way to easy to damage the DS and not even realize it. Opinion only of course.

Glad to see you were able to break it free finally.

Yep, I did the double torque. That was the most straightforward part of the whole thing!

While some don't, that stake nut should be replaced instead of reused. for replacing it.

If you plan on doing any future wrenching, consider picking up a cordless impact. Many go with Milwaukee. I invested into DeWalt and their batts. Last year I picked up this compact snub nose. It zips that stake nut right off with no issue at all. I don't even bother trying to unstake it first. Hasn't failed at anything I've thrown at it.

Home Depot has sales all the time.
