I’m currently installing Saf-T-Caps from the cab back to rear bumper. I’ve got the bed off and all caps are tacked on. The spare tire crossmember looks ok, but the fuel tank crossmember is dying. Saf-T-Cap makes a product for this. I can’t find an install video. Here’s my situation and question-

I’m using a friends garage and the original deal was to install these caps and replace the carrier bearing. I’d like to squeeze in this crossmember if possible. But, I’m not sure if all of the stuff attached to the old crossmember needs to come off or if I can somehow weld it on without disturbing brake lines etc. I just have a feeling if I have to remove everything and do this now, things are going to start leaking and I’ll open a can of worms and my truck will end up being in his garage taking up valuable space for more time than we agreed. He’s doing this for free for me so I don’t want overstay my welcome. If anyone who has used this product could chime in with their experience I’d be grateful thank you

This comes down to your experience and skill . I have been doing this type of work most of my life.

I will say damp cotton rags work well to protect metal lines.

Can you wait on the fuel tank cross member. to you have the needed materials to make the new brake and fuel lines??

When I bid this type of job I always include new fuel and brake lines. If you can remove the lines without breaking your very lucky. Living here in eastern Pa I have never not had them not break.

If the fuel tank comes out at least a new fuel pump bracket and the option of a new fuel pump.

I have the resources to make all my own metal parts.

    Best of Luck !!
