Looks like seating for the Space Shuttle.

You're worried about saving $1700? You've got 2 car seat aged kids surely you know about how much children cost?

    Get a double cab.

Everyone *thinks* they know what they’re doing, but that’s why companies and manufacturers are held to testing standards. Even if you literally work in a Toyota factory, and snuck in after hours with your Tacoma to add your own latch system and proper seating space, it’s not tested to work. Do you have a crash testing facility you can use? If so, I’m so sorry please ignore me.

I’m surprised you even asked for legal advice? I’m sure anyone that knows what they’re doing could defend themselves just as well as a lawyer.

I love my toddlers but…I dream about what I could be doing with the $4k in daycare we spend on them a month.

I sold my access cab with 1 kid because it was terrible with a front passenger, even a small person, for more than a 5 minute drive. My 2 year old daughter in the backseat had no leg room and neither did my 5’6” wife up front. Plus you have to factor in the suicide doors in a parking lot… so annoying to get kids in and out of the truck while the clamshell doors trap you.

Fitting a car seat or three in an access cab is not the problem- it’s just not comfortable for anyone. Sure you can make it work if you already have the truck, but don’t buy an access cab and think your family is going to be happy on a road trip.
