She’s coming along nicely. Snapped this pic during a brutal 65* California Saturday morning in Huntington Beach. It’s so much more photogenic without the goofy stock mirrors and turn signals.

^^ that’s what I got, and while videoing rides sounds cool, taking the time to make good edits takes forever

Yeah I'm not much of an editor, my footage is just raw as I shoot it. I know just enough about computers to totally screw things up. You have to understand that I was born before computers where around, didnt grow up using them. Some old guys get it and some dont. I grew up with a wrench or some other tool in my hand. But I still have fun with it and some folks seem to like my vids.
If anybody is interested here's my channel.

Looking at doing something like this with an Apple CarPlay adapter so I can have GPS and other things up in front of me and not audio only.

    Man... Aprilias are so pretty.

I ordered a Givi S250 box and some compact tools to make a tool kit for longer rides. I hope everything fits. I still need to make a mount for the bike too (not sure where I'll have space).

It’s no SV650 but it will do. You going to hold onto it or try and flip it?

I haven’t seen any good deals on a bike in a long time.

Ordered from here for my Shoei…which I haven’t installed. But has great reviews for the mount. Actually, think someone around here had recommended them some time back.

First time I've ridden my FJR with a stock seat in quite a few years. It's not very comfortable. Years ago, when I first learned about long distance rallies and tried my first one it was done on a stock seat. That first rally I covered a shade over 1100 miles in under 30 hours. 2 days after the event I could barely bend over enough to tie my shoes. I learned pretty quickly that most of these long-distance riders have custom made seats and so I decided if I wanted to keep doing this, I needed to spend the money to make the bike as comfortable as possible. Most riders are familiar with the big name, commercial seat companies like Corbin, Mustang, Saddleman, etc. but the real long-distance crowd goes to true custom builders and tow of the biggest are Russell Day Long and Laam Custom Seats. Another FJR owner and friend had a Russell and let me try it. I suppose it was comfortable enough, but it looked like it came of a piece of farm equipment, too wide and not attractive on a bike like the FJR. I looked at Laam seats and decided for the money that was my best bet.

The way these custom seat makers like Laam work are you send them a set of stock seat pans and they build/rebuild a seat using OEM seat pans to insure the best fit. I filled out a questionnaire answering questions like how tall I am, what is my inseam, how much do I weigh, and what issues do I have with the stock seat. I sent out my seat pans with instructions to have Seth build me a custom front seat and just recover the pillion seat to match it. Took a few weeks and right before he buily my seat he followed up the questionnaire with a phone interview to go over everything to make sure it was what I expected. Short time later I come home to a big box on my porch with my new, fitted to me seats. Seth recommended at least 1000 miles be put on them before we discuss any possible issues to allow the foam to break in a little and for me to get accustomed to the slightly different riding position. I've now enjoyed the comfort of that custom seat for over 9 years and 140k miles. That's correct, no typo there 140k miles.

Last Fall I noticed the seat cover starting to develop a tear in the material following a natural line in the material. No seams there, the material was apparently starting to rip. Before it gets too bad, I need to send it back, so last week I called Seth Laam to talk about having the seat freshened up and recovered. He remembered building it, told me he keeps records and photos of each seat he builds with what foam densities and thicknesses were used. As we discussed me sending it back, I jokingly suggested that perhaps since the cover is tearing this might be a warranty situation. In no way, shape, of form was I being serious after 9 years and that number of miles. Seth's next words more than shocked me. He told me if I just want it recovered to send it in and he would install a new cover at no charge other than the shipping cost!

I told him I could not possibly accept that offer and that I'm more than happy to pay for a good product and one that the builder stands behind. My custom seat left with UPS on Friday so until it returns, I have to put a stock seat back on my bike. Managed about 140 miles today on it and my ass is sore.

That's awesome! I hated the stock seat on my Versys and ended up buying a used Sargent seat, which is much better but still hurt after about 6 hours of riding, even with padded shorts.

If I ever get a new bike I'll price in a custom seat as well as my favorite type of riding now is long distance.

I haven’t used it much yet. I got it set up and used it around town for a day, but I think it will prove worth the money on a couple of trips I’m planning this spring and early summer.

I'm thinking about flipping it. Good deals are few and far between right now. Have to jump on them when they pop up.
