Go pull the drawers on that and see what you think, They don't feel good. Then go to Harbor Freight and try one of theirs. They feel Much Better. Craftsman Today isn't the Craftsman of Yesterday.

Ooo just seeing this thread. I inherited my dad's fully loaded automotive toolbox. It's been absurdly handy.

My grandma got the smaller one... not that she uses anything in it

Not pictured here is that it tipped over during a move once. Still functional, but a few poor sliding drawers now. I will order replacements one day

US General is the HF brand, has had favorable reviews for a long time.

Also, consider the lenghts and height of your tools, and get more space that you need now so you can grow into it.

In my opinion, too many of the lower quality ones have one or two very deep drawers that have limited efficiency and dont fit aerosol cans well, if you intend to put them in the rollaround. they can be good for grease guns and jumper cables and such, but make sure you have lots of shallow drawers.

Don't overlook a used unit. Lots of mechanics upgrade to a larger box and sell their old one.

I'm entering my 3rd generation of socket storage. Original was the old standard Craftsman steel sticks and clips. Then the spike type, which had several drawbacks. Now trying Phase 1 of Ernst twistlocks.20230116_152306.jpg

You can always make your own. No wasted space between sockets or empty pegs. And it's easy to tell at a glance if any sockets are missing at the end of a job.

Didn't know anything about these until this post. But now I will be. I am finally fed up and ready to move on from my US general tool card that has served me well for the last 10 years or so. There isn't a single unit out there in my budget that checks all my boxes. Any more info besides what's in the link?

The new ones will be deeper, and have the drawer unlock all the way across, instead of just at the one end. There's a few other features, as well as a new hutch, top lockers and side lockers. There's a few videos and articles about them out there from the sema reveal. They are basically trying to be a lot more like snapon. I was looking to buy a used snapon box, but if I can get a 72" with Hutch and side locker from us general that's still 24" deep, I'll definitely go that route.

Man, so they're going deeper still? And upgrading the drawer locks? Looks like I bought mine at the wrong time :(

Found what I think was a pretty sweet deal at costco today. A Feit Electric battery powered 3-head stand light.. thing..

So 3 heads that rotate/fold to point wherever and are super adjustable and bright AF. Battery powered and USB-C charges, head detaches from the tripod and has magnets in the base as well as a hook to hang it. Tripod has standard camera tripod threads on it. Comes with 2a/10w charging brick and USB-A to USB-C cable. Has 2 different color temperatures (daylight and bright white) and 3 brightness settings. Comes with a carrying bag and packs down to about 2ft long and about the diameter of a pringles tube. This thing is sweet!

$50 at my local costco! It's going for $140 online. Hell of a steal in my book!

Try a heat gun or WD40 for the stickers.
