Hi TW. I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with the non-bypass version of the Bilstein 8100 for the rear suspension. I've seen lots of rave reviews for the bypass version but the non-bypass, non-adjustable version are considerably less expensive (roughly half) while still using the large 60mm piston and remote reservoir. Are they worth it? Or are there better options at that price point?
I'm not looking for any serious lift, and I'll be using the stock leaf pack for a while until I can sneak the rest of the suspension into the budget without my better half freaking out. :D

Me too I wonder if anyone here has them? If not I maybe the first Guinea pig to try it out but I saw the bilstein website and it says it needs a maximum of 4.5 wheel backspace. Also since the bypass are expensive and the same price as the front ones I have I want to see if it’s working buying them too match my shocks but it’s either this new bilstein 8100 non bypass, fox or kings for the rear

Anybody? I'm very close to ordering some but I was hoping there would be a little feedback from this crowd first.

If you are buying aftermarket wheels then it might work but oe wheels like in my situation it won’t and it sucks big time because I wanted to match my front

Are you saying the bypass version wouldn't fit with OEM wheels? Because the non-bypass version shouldn't cause any issues that I can tell. They're only a little bigger than stock.

Interesting, I was unaware of that. Could be an issue for me too since I was planning to use the OEM wheels for snow tires. Thanks!

Yes I didn’t knew that either until I called bilstein and verified but they said it will be a tire issue because of the positive offset it might rub or hit the shock which it’s best to be safe than sorry

I run my 265/75/16 winter tires in my TRD OR wheels with my bypass 8100 installed.

I should have the 8100 Smooth bodies installed by next month. I'll let y'all know how I feel about them. Pairing them with 6112 up front and Deaver U402 Stage 2 Leaf Pack.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Interesting, didn't even know they made non bypass. Looks like a decent upgrade from 5160s. Not being able to use OEM wheels sure is weird though.

You cant hear the rears. The front 8100 Zone Controls do make noise through travel and once you know and understand that is normal, it’s never a problem.

Right that noise in front but I got used to it….well I wanted those non bypass shocks on the rear would of been a nice setup for my truck but if I did….I would have to put wheel spacers which I don’t want i wonder if it works with 5160 on them right now I have them with 5100 and the front absorbs it but rear takes it hard

For those wondering about wheel/tire fitment. Here's a quote from the installation manual:

This BILSTEIN product is NOT compatible with OE wheel backspacing. You must use wheels with a maximum of 4.5” backspacing. The largest tire size that will clear with a 4.5” backspaced wheel is a 285 width. Final installation must be evaluated for any potential physical static or dynamic interference between the shock body, hose, or reservoir and the chassis shock tower/tire.

Ok so the bypass work with OE wheels but the non-bypass don't? That's weird, right? Why would they be an issue? Is this common with 2.5" dampers?
Glad I asked! The shop I was talking to apparently didn't know about this.

Damn, that's a problem. My Methods have 4.75" backspacing. I'm not going to replace my wheels just to fit these things. Maybe I'll end up with the bypass after all, or a lesser model.
