All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I am going thru a hifi speaker phase…I feel you ;)

What do you guys recommend for a beginner on how to start learning?

My extremely musical sister told me she would help me learn but between school, her own band and work we can never line up schedules.

Since Christmas I’ve been struggling my way through a couple songs from youtube. But definitely feels like theres a better way to learn.

    I have a taylor BBTe

BBT is an excellent acoustic to start on.

My recommendation would be to start with learning and practicing the most common chords. G, C, A, D, E, Em; then throw an F and a B in there too at some point. Work on strumming them cleanly, and practice chord changes to build muscle memory and finger strength. Every once in a while, throw a challenge at yourself like say "1, 2, 3, G!" and try to get to a G chord as fast as you can. Highly recommend doing spider drills too, using four fingers to hit notes in succession up and down the fretboard on each string - helps to build speed and accuracy.

Also, don't forget to take your time. Learn things slow to start, the gradually pick up the tempo as your fingers start remembering what to do on their own.

I'd also throw it out there that Justin Guitar has some really great lessons for beginners. I think it's free as well? At least the beginner course I believe.

Just bought this 1980 Gibson les paul deluxe made in Nashville, TN from the original owner. He stored it for 30 years. All original, unmodified, not a scratch on it. Just tuned it. Unreal.

I've got one piece of advice, and I think you'll see this to be true as you've stated above already this is an area of struggle.

Surround yourself with musical people. Plug yourself into every environment you can to be surrounded by people making music. Your sister may be busy, and its an extremely nice gesture, but find some other people who have schedules that will align and make it happen. Self motivation is important, and practicing fundamentals on your own time is valuable, but nothing beats accountability. Accountability breeds self-motivation. If musical friends or community aren't an option, get out of your comfort zone; buy lessons. If you're forking out your own money, you'll make sure you're getting your money's worth out of yourself. Lessons definitely aren't a must, but if you're ever finding you're coming to a road block with self learning, find a mentor  Music is all about community.

Not totally sure why I bought this, but happy that I did - stumbled across this used little Marshall DSL1, 1 whole whopping watt of tube power, with a low power mode that takes it down to .1 watt (because 1 isn't low enough already? lol). It also only has a 16ohm out for the speaker; I had a spare 16 ohm creamback H65 on hand, but no cab to put it in, so threw this quick box together over the weekend; just finished assembling it earlier today and fired it all up for the first time.

On the regular gain channel, it does a decent clean, and can get some decent dirt going when cranked and pushed by the guitar pickups; though the reverb is not stellar (it's not terrible, but there's no mistaking it for a real spring tank).

The ultra gain channel, however, is where it shines. Great heavy crunchy Marshall distortion; gets surprisingly loud for it's size, and certainly sounds bigger than it's size would suggest, but without knocking stuff off the shelves. Kind of wish I had a half stack to plug it into, I'm sure it would sound even better through a bigger cab.

I was casually contemplating something for getting a heavy to metal'ish sound for my home office room that wouldn't get crazy loud. This seems to do that job well.

Can always post a picture up and see who's feeling weak in the wallet, lol.

That is a sweet one; love the finish. Both aggressive and classy combined.

What this dood posts below is sacrosanct...so much truth. Have you got a computer and a little bit of knowledge on how to use it. I've been doing MS Team's for a few months with an old buddy of mine and while it works from an 'instructive' perspective it really sucks from a jamming perspective (online). What I have recently been introduced to and now have it configured is Jamulus. Jamulus.io is the website that talks to its capabilities, but it really is a game changer for jamming online for no $$ to step into. Just need a set of headphones.. But if you has a puter I'd be happy to meet up in a teams session with you and help foster that enviroment that off topic guy below states.

I have been putting myself in front of complete strangers (thru friends) to play and two things happen...you get over your shyness of playing in front of other peeps quickly and it really forces you to up your game, as opposed to relying on your own discipline.

Reach out if ya wanna take me up on the offer...I'm semi retired, so schedule is somewhat flexible
