That is my buddy’s favorite and I can’t say I enjoy it but I can handle it. I bought him a 10-15 year bottle aged in bourbon barrels one time and it was not too bad either, but can’t remember if it was the Balvenie or not.

I wish I enjoyed scotch, but I just don’t unfortunately

@AugustaTaco - there are a few qualities of Scotch that I like, and picked up yesterday, but I need to sit with someone who understands it and see if I can find one that is a bit more muted on the smokiness, which, i think is a major profile of Scotch.

I do remember when someone bought me a round of MacCallan 15 or 18, I don’t remember that being Smokey but..that was years ago.

It’s ok…one less thing we have to buy!

MacCallan 12 is a nice scotch. It’s one of the few I can enjoy. I’m finding bourbon to be more my style.

Well today was a fun haul! Picked up two bottles on the list I’ve been hunting for, The Colonel and the JD SBBP. The Weller was a bonus pick and a backup to the other bottles I have.

And with the the EHT pick up, which is the first time I’ve ever purchased and also seen in stores in years, provides a great little family photo :) New Mexico is not an easy place to purchase this brand for some reason. And perhaps a tasting of all to really compare/contrast.

Went to the liquor store to find anything new that might peak my interest. Nothing did so I just restocked. I'm a big fan of good cheap whiskey. Never had Very Old Barton's before. But I'm really enjoying it. Definitely tastes better than the price.

Recon rover - I like mellow corn, definitely worth trying at under $20.

Klavender - Since you like Very Old Barton then try the bottled in bond version. I like it a lot better at only a few dollars more.

I'm not great at describing whiskey flavors. But kinda like an alcoholic version of corn dust. Have you ever poured out corn deer feed and smelled the dust coming from that? That's kinda what it tastes like.

Since these are all very corn heavy, which I like.
Very Old Barton is like a lighter sweeter version of EW BiB.
Mellow Corn definitely tastes dryer after sipping on Very Old Barton for a bit.

It’s interesting to see how everyone’s whiskey palates play out based in part on how you all like the individual grains to begin with, in their more basic form…

I think about this all the time when I consider how I very often prefer wheated whiskeys (but sometimes, not always).

Also…tried the KC15 finally with a couple of fellow bourbon aficionados, it’s very, very good. Of course, I’ve always like KC to begin with, but this was a great combo of lower proof, subtle oak, and traditional caramel/vanilla flavors combined with something else I can’t quite put my finger on. Cherry? Orange. Quite smooth. Lots of reviews say the oak gets too overpowering, I didn’t find that to be true. Is it worth the $100+ price, at 100 proof? I dunno. But I enjoyed a small. Life is short.

I recall that smell very well, especially after six deer with my crossbow in NC. I’m going to go buy some

Do it! It's cheap enough. It's a basic smell and flavor. If you like corn likker, I think you'll like Mellow Corn.

If you could only pick one, Buffalo Trace or Weller Special Reserve, both the same price, which would you pick?

That's a tough one! I would probably go Weller. I only use BT for mixing and could replace that with a WT101 or similar in the price range. The Weller is way better neat than the BT. At least to me.

I think I'm gonna try the Weller. I know I like the BT, haven't tried the Weller yet.

I have the WT101, I like it & it's readily available in my area. BT & Weller, not so much. I got drawn in a lottery to pick 1 from a list and the BT & Weller Special Reserve are my 2 options for this week.

I drink a lot of both. Buffalo Trace has more flavor and more of a traditional mashbill. Weller is smoother and lighter in taste, with a wheated mashbill. I love both, but it seems like every time I pour a glass of Weller, I'm always surprised by the pleasant, understated flavor profile. Weller gets the nod for me.
