I ran calculations for sealed box sizes on a couple different door speakers. Sizes are surprisingly large. Is this even a thing? Does anyone actually do this?

I cant recall seeing it on a Tacoma but its possible. You may need to build a custom door panel Unless going fully custom you will prob need to keep it to smaller ones. Usually its not needed on door speakers due to their infinite baffle design of them. I r seen 6 and 8 subs mounted on doors or in kick panels. I had an idea for a bit to wedge JL 6" subs in doors but even then they have a very deep mounting dept. For a sealed one you can look at using fiberglass. This would be very close to foam baffles and would be the most space-saving option. I think I ended up removing mine but cant recall. The real big thing to help boost sound is sound deadening your doors well. That hands down lifted the mid bass range. Won't really ever get really low notes but the 100+ range benefits dramatically. If you have not done that it may give you what you are trying to achieve with the enclosed.

the infinite baffle design is what I'm talking about. One of the 6.5" speakers I ran was looking terrible at anything under 30 Liters.

sealed enclosure in the doors only work if you lock the window in the up position, or limit it's travel to avoid the box, which will amount to only cracking the window a few inches. but fiberglass is your only option with this.

can it be done? yes. is it worth it? no.
