I would not run that. Stick with your favorite 0w-20. If you really need to do something different, then 5w-20, but I wouldn't recommend that.

See @Woodrow F Call 's UOA thread. There's a lot of good info in the 1st Post.

Why. Oil changes are what is important, not super special oil, especially one that is outside manufacturer's specs.

Ummm, that would be a hell no, not only hell no to the 10W-30, but also hell no to the Scamzoil.

I assume you used toyota care for the first ~20k miles?

My opinion if ya want it, I am not a oil expert and do care to be one, but I do not understand why one would use different oil weights than what is stated in the manual and on the oil cap

How much racing do you plan on doing, and do you plan on changing the oil after every race... from one stop light to the next?

Go with the recommended 0W-20 Synthetic recommended by Toyota, choose your brand, they are mostly all the same, or very close to each other. You do not need high end racing oil, in your daily driven Tacoma. Nothing about that race oil, will extend the life of your engine.

You are doing your first oil change at 23k miles? Or did I read it wrong

if you do you will need to keep a written log of the oil changes you do and keep the receipts for the oil and filter. if you have a warranty issue and the dealer discovers that oil you will be SOL.

I've been running 5w-30 synthetic in my tacoma the last 2 months, or so but now having some doubts after this last -15 degree cold snap we had. I started my truck one morning, and it didn't sound happy making a loud grunt as it first started. This is the only time it's ever done this. Today it was normal. I'm thinking it's back to 0w-20 for the next change.
