hood scoop

hey guys whats up....any one know how to make the hood scoop on the tacoma functional?

 

the scoop is in a low-pressure area on the hood..a couple guys here have tried it, but it doesn't do anything and may actually decrease performance

Have wondered this myself. Seems it could be utilized for a CAI. But apparently not.

 

Anybody know where I can get a scooped hood for a first gen taco?

 

Hanneman and Glassworks both make 1st gen scooped glass hoods.

 

Someone here cut a scoop off a 4 runner and molded it to stock hood

 

Thanks, I just want the look of a scooped hood. Trying to find an old 4 runner hood is impossible it seems but that is the scoop I want.

 

There's about 5 little 10mm nuts under the scoop, then you can wiggle the whole scoop out. The studs that the 10mm nuts were on are the only part that's kinda a squeeze. Once you get the whole scoop out you will need to drill 4 pop rivets if I remember right. Use a bit just bigger than the head of the rivet and it will only cut off the top disc portion of the rivet. The plastic plug will then fall out. I replaced the bug screen with some tiny zip ties, bt that's optional. Slide the scoop back into the hood, replace the nuts and you're golden. As for functionality... It can reduce underhood temperatures to some degree, but as an intake, the scoop is in a aerodynamically lazy spot. People on here hav tried, but a good CAI or short ram intake would be much more effective. Whatever taking the plastic plugout does, it's better than having it in.. I ask Toyota why build a hood with a scoop and plug it up? Probably purely for looks.
