Is this a good thing? Having the rubber coating put on and whatever else they put on it.

It has a 7 year warranty on it.

I had the vulcanized rubber undercoating applied to my frame and underbody. Frame still looks brand new except for rock chips here and there.

It also acts as a sound deadener.

A lot of folks gonna chime in and say don’t do it because you will ruin your truck. I’m sorry but that’s total BS. If it’s done right to a new truck, it works great.

No, never use rubberized undercoating. It eventually cracks flakes and will hold water salt and cause more problems. Lot of times, if you read fine print. It will void oem warranty.

I would use a rust protection specialty shop for undercoating. Krown is known for good protection around here in Canada.

Regarding the seven year warranty, let’s say you have it put on before the truck leaves the lot, in seven years can you have it reapplied to renew the warranty? If no to the warranty renewal, is it something that can be reapplied after seven years of wear and tear? I know with fluid film, one can just hose their truck undercarriage before each application and each renewal is as protecting as the one before.

    Exactly what I’m talking about.

I bet you never had rubberized undercoatings on your vehicles. And you probably watched that YouTube video that was shown about a thousand times on here.:)

Use a coating that you can monitor what’s happening underneath. The black rubberized stuff is a throwback to 1970s and yes it will separate and get moisture underneath promoting rust

use something more modern that doesn’t seal in the water. Even cosmolene is better than the rubber crap

No. If Toyota thought it was a good idea why would they have not already done it? These type of offerings by dealers (normally done by the finance manager, even if you are not financing) are just basically scams. It is an easy way for them to sell something you don't need and charge way more than it cost in the aftermarket and hide the cost in your monthly payment.

Yes, I have had it on vehicles before, and it did exactly what I described. Never again. Never watch YouTube or Tik tok.

My truck is almost 5 years old and they use salt where I live. I can take a pic of my undercarriage if anyone would like to see it.

Hard pass on that if you live in the rust belt. As stated above cover your frame with something you can monitor rubberized coating will hide what’s actually going on which is a very bad thing in the rust belt.

It was a part time job while I was in college.
It cannot be applied 100% and water will eventually get behind parts of it. It can't be helped. Not saying it will ruin your truck but pretty much every other thin coating will protect better. Con is it has to be applied every year unlike yours.

For a product that needs to be installed pretty much perfectly, do you really trust a dealer to do that?

If you are in the Twin City area this guy does Wool Wax (a slightly better product than fluid film because it lasts a bit longer) applications.

I've had it on my truck for 3 years, I go through the car wash with underbody sprayers once a week and the only places that have needed to get resprayed each year are the diff and control arms.

    Fair.

You see back then, they used “tar” like shitty rubber and applied it very thick.

Nowdays they use vulcanized rubber. It’s a thin and very hard coating. Almost like black paint. I triple checked my frame after the application and couldn’t find anything I didn’t like. I guess time will tell:) So far though, no complaints at all.
