This may have been covered, but is there a purpose for the FMU if you have the URD 7th Injector and the updated fuel pump that goes along with it?

Would there be any benefit in my case?

 

If the FMU is used with a high flow fuel pump like the AEM 340 you have a good chance the 7th injector kit is not needed.
I’ve run an FMU with AEM fuel pump and have zero ping fuel issues at 6000 feet with a 1.9” pulley with stock ECU

I’m not ready to go down the haltech route quite just yet, but I probably will in the future as a note. Going to be a whole new world.

Have you ever had to go to a Star smog station?
I just got my registration notice and it says I have to take my truck to a star station. I’m extra nervous with having to take it to a star station.

 

Yeah I think every 4 years you have to get a STAR inspection. The place I always go to does them as well, I think most smog places do. I was nervous as well but it didn't take any longer than the normal inspection and I was in/out in 15 minutes maybe.

2000+ don't have to do the dyno/sniffer test which I think is where a lot of the older vehicles get hung up even when they don't have any codes or monitor issues. So I don't think it's something to worry about as much as if you had an older model Tacoma. As long as you have the CARB stickers for all your mods and you have no history of failing (I think they are required to be extra careful to cover their ass with vehicles that have failed in the past) you should be fine.

 

Put a 2.2" pulley from Pulleyboys on today.

Went from 5.8-6.2lbs up to 8.1-8.5lbs. AFR was sitting 11.1-11.3 every time. Still haven't been able to get the motor to knock so that's the good news.

However, I think my belt might be slipping now... whenever I would get above 3500rpm on a pull it would fall on its face. The tac didn't keep climbing so I doubt it's the cluch.

$23 Gates k040620 Belt

Gates k040620 belt with about 7k on it so far. Guess I'll try a new belt and see if that works. Can't see the dynamic tensioner going bad already but if a new belt doesn't work then that's the next step I guess.

The tensioner spring does get weak when you go down in size on the pulley.
I replace my spring tensioner about every 50k and my belt doesn’t slip at all and that’s with a 1.9” pulley,
You can probably adjust the alternator position nut to get it tighter too.

The complete tensioner u can buy for 50.00

 

New belt and tensioner didn't do a thing. Neither did adjusting the alternator to put more tension on the belt.

Swapped back to the stock pulley and it seems to be running perfectly again. Albeit with less power than with the 2.2

The only time it would start slipping with the smaller pulley is when it would get up past 3500rpm. I could feel the power drop off as soon as it started screeching, RPMs would drop about 200-300, AFR would dip into the low 9's and boost would drop about 1-1.5 lbs.

I would think a heavier flywheel would help dampen the quick acceleration but that pretty much defeats the purpose.

 

Doesn’t make sense, I’ve never had any issues with my belt slipping unless the pulley or belt was worn down from lots of miles and I’ve had every available pulley on my supercharger at one time or another.

 

I agree. The first few times it happened I thought it was my clutch since it only happened when I got up into the power band in the upper gears. Even boosting in 5th at 75 it would pull normally but after a few seconds I would hear belt squeal and it would bog down.

From what I can tell everything is as it should be with the blower itself too. The resistance from spinning the pulley by hand is what I would expect from the rotors lightly being in constant contact with the housing.

I've never heard my superchager belt squeal when it was slipping from a worn belt or pulley.
If its the fan bracket bearing they do lock up sometimes and sometimes snap in half breaking lots of stuff

Oh this is a good thing. Less heat and more boost...............The rabbit hole hit an air pocket and could get deep really fast.

 

Is 7.5-8.5 PSI boost normal for a 2.2 pulley? I'm wondering if I'm losing something somewhere. I'm at about 300ft so maybe thats why? I definitely have more boost compared to the standard pulley that I was running, but that had me at about 5.5-6PSI

I do have some belt conditioner maybe I could try in case its slipping? anyone used it on your supercharger belt? Generally I steer clear of cheap fixes but I've seen a few people use it successfully. I'm wary, however.

 

You could be losing efficiency if your rotor coating is wearing out. I was making about the same amount of boost with my 2.2” pulley and my old rotor pack. With my new rotor pack I sometimes see it just pass 10 psi on a cold day. The fact that you’re near sea level should be helping you make more boost not hurting you.

 

How many miles did you get out of that rotor pack before you felt the need to replace it?
