Should I run AMS Dominator 10-w30 racing oil in my stock Tacoma?

back in the day, i would use it just cause the name sounds cool.

seriously, no. use 0w-20.

 

Race oils usually have excessive zddp or zinc in them for flat tappet camshafts. Zddp and zinc is hard on the catalytic converters. Probably not a good idea to use race oil in your street vehicle

 

Switched to 5-30 in the wife's highlander (same 3.5), immediately dropped 4-5 mpg.

Just grabbed Costco 0-20 for the truck, looked like an ok deal at $30 for the box. Open it to realize it's TWO 5 quart jugs for $30, fricking steel!
To really anger the masses I also run a Fram filter.

Meets the specs and proven quality all the way around. Spending more money is the same as buying some rich guy a steak dinner, you get the same benefit.

These threads are always hilarious. No, you don’t need 10W-30, and no, 10W-30 will absolutely not hurt anything. Folks don’t understand oil. There are very minute differences between 0W-20 and even 10W-30. Yeah, the numbers sound way far apart but it isn’t like that in the real world.

Even 20W-50 could be used with no differences. 0W-20 is about 4-5x thicker when cold than warmed up 20W-50 is. But the numbers sound scary so folks tend to recommend against it.

Do whatever you feel like. It’ll be fine either way.

OP never said it was the first oil change. Just the first oil change he's doing himself.

Or he can just self report it in the owners section on Toyota.com or on the Toyota app. It will populate any service work done in between any dealer or independent work attached to his vin. I log my oil changes and rotations when I do them myself and it shows up in my vin history.
