Doesnt seem particularly unfeasible, except for prices of the vehicles it would nearly be possible now. Got over a decade to work on that, not a tough goal. People like to whine and bitch about the power grid but if anything it'll just put the ball back in the blue collar working stiffs court, electricians, civil engineers, linemen will get the boom theve wanted. Gas will still have its place, commerical stuff will still need ICE. But just about everyone's pessimism is just fueled by an adverse reaction to change, I was one of those people too, I get it. But ultimately do you like being chained to fuel prices, will you miss the noise when it has left, will you pine for the days of cold starts and warming up?

I wasn't old enough to be in most of the places with the jukeboxes, but I heard it on the radio. I've liked that hook for literally as long as I can remember.

I thought there was talk of banning pre-emissions diesels, so that you couldn't register a 12 valve Cummins truck or similar in the state.

    Nothing like that.

I think it's after '98 they require smog, before that they don't.

Reminds me I need to get a smog...

Got my split beam torque wrench this weekend. It weights less than my Kobalt and doesn't have a super high quality finish on it. But it seems dead accurate and more reliable. The Kobalt is still getting stuck and not clicking after torquing some lug nuts earlier today. Always stored at 20ft lbs and treated it with respect. I'll have more faith in the split beam for the head bolts.

The Kobalt should have a lifetime warranty if it's sticking. You just go in, grab a new one, then take both to customer service. I've done it with like 2 socket wrenches and a few ratcheting wrenches

We only park one car in the driveway (though sometimes in the garage).

Land Cruiser sits in front of the house cause it's still leaking (power steering).

Truck will sit in the newly paved spot while leaving a ton of space beside it but yeah essentially 3 cars wide.

Yes/no. While I agree that resistance to change is a driving factor, it isn't the main reason that dependence on EV's will ultimately fail. In the long run, we aren't set up for sole reliance on electricity. The grid isn't setup for that kind of demand. Realistically, your neighborhood isn't even setup for that kind of demand.

The average EV charger is 30A-50A. Most households need 2 vehicles. This means that most households would need an increase of 60A-100A to fulfill demand (for EV's only, not including appliances, lawnmowers etc). Your typical residential service currently is 150A-200A. This means that the average house will need to increase it's electrical capacity by 40%-50% minimum.

Last year, CA/TX were already limiting electrical capacity WITHOUT this increased demand. Bottom line, the increase in electrical demand is going to cripple the grid and overall electrical supply. As the green movement pushes forward and natural gas, nuclear and other power sources are phased out, our energy supply continually dwindles. I'm all for renewables, but at the pace we're going, they'll never keep up with demand.

Gotta power up all them Teslas somehow. Oh, and electric stoves, electric furnaces, electric heat pumps, electric water heaters, electric fireplaces, A/C, fridges, electric lawnmowers etc.

Zero power availability when the grid collapses equals zero emissions...

I'd love to see hydrogen become a factor as well, but I think we are in motion currently to overlook it entirely and whether "the grid" et al is ready or not it will be put to the test and shored up as is necessary to meet demand. I've noticed a large portion of people seem to think the 2035 deadline is a complete stop sale of fuel to existing ICE vehicles or an inability to register ICE vehicles when in reality it is just a stop sale of new ICE vehicles. When the writing is on the wall this far in advance (we give CA a lot of shit, but they are a huge sales market and a massive cultural driving force) it is quite possible to make the necessary changes at which point even a decade isn't the deadline because you can still have older ICE vehicles or ones purchased out of state. Charge controllers, especially for multivehicle homes will become smarter as well, they already load level and predictive charge, another decade and...? Plenty of ways to skin a cat.

    For now...

When renewables can't keep up, they'll slowly bring back all the evil oil/gas/nuclear options that they are slowly shutting down. There have been great strides in cogeneration power plants in the last decade or so that are going to change things moving forward. Will likely take time for governments to realize that power generation isn't as "environmentally evil" as many would portray it.

Nuclear isn't evil, we have spotty past with it, but every major meltdown was due to general incompetence... Which we have computers to automate now. I'd like to see more of it.
