Nice choice. If I had 17" rims, that's the way I would have gone. I'm running the M-55s at 235/85 on 16" TRD faux beadlocks (10 mm offset) and they are excellent off road. Those two sizes are nearly identical, especially in that model, and (obviously) work fine on stock rims and suspensions. You don't see the Toyos mentioned here a lot, but they are the tire of choice for loggers and mining trucks in the BC Interior mountains. We're running on lots of blast rock with sharp edges and having the most bulletproof tires possible is key. Having the mountain snowflake symbol is an added bonus.

I'm actually thinking of getting a second set and having them studded for the 3-ish months we really need them around here. The snowflake means I can still run the unstudded ones for the other 4 months we are required to have winter tires.

I've been looking at 255/80r17 wildpeaks and I'm seeing one place selling them that say they are 34lbs but everywhere else says 52lbs. Do they make them in different ratings or is this just a typo?

Thanks. So does anyone feel that pizza cutters are too heavy or notice any overly negative effects on performance/mpg? I'm really leaning toward them but want to make to sure I'm aware of everything before pulling the trigger. Mine is basically 98% daily driving and I'm positive I don't want 285's but still kinda batting around 265's at this point.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm rocking the below and can technically feel a difference. LT255/80R17 (33.31" x 10.04")

Hard to quantify that difference, as far as a butt dyno goes, but I can say I use to get 21MPGs in town and now it's 18.

    On a comparative note, I have a co-worker running the below and he gets the same MPGs also(18). LT285/70R17 (32.76" x 11.5)

So I am wondering if weight is less a factor and it's more the size affecting the overall gear ratio/load on engine.

In both cases, the truck doesn't feel all that different it's just under load more in each gear during cruising speeds according to my Ultragauge and the head-units instant MPG readings.

Small side note, me and my co-worker have manual transmissions not the auto.
(Manual is geared lower in the transmission then the auto)

Why I run 235/85/16. Essentially a 32" tire. A readily available size that fits stock rims and doesn't tax the horrible stock gearing on our trucks.

If 98% of your driving is on road daily driving, look at Michelin LTX in stock or one up sizing at 265 width.

I'm honestly surprised at the lack of options in 265's. Seems like they go from just under 32" to basically a 34".

    This is absolutely anecdotal evidence.
    No science is involved.

I got my truck fall of '21.
I ran stock Wranglers in 265/70/16 until spring of '22.
I would average ~20mpg according to the thing on the dash (and the term average is a bit loose, more of a feel than anything).

In the spring of '22 I switched to some Yokohama Geolander MT003s in 255/85/16. Technically I also swapped rims, but the rims were "stock" but from on SR5. There may be some weight difference there. I didn't check.
Fuel mileage dropped to ~16mpg (again using the thing on the dash, not accounting for actual mileage difference). Also, when the weather isn't Hoth, it's very typical for me to just, semi-randomly go trailing on my way to / home from something (and by trailing I usually means something like 10 miles of class VI roads in NH), as part of my day to day driving around. I rarely do "dedicated" trailing trips, so that will have an impact as well.

I had planned on switching back to the stock tires / wheels for winter, as I didn't expect to get good snow/ice performance from the Yoko's. Long story short, I ended up selling the stock tires and replacing them with some dedicated winters (Firestone Winterforce) in 265/75/16 instead. Fuel mileage this winter has been generally between 19mpg and 20mpg (again, thing on the dash). I have done some winter wheeling, but it has been less frequent than in the summer / fall.

I'm quite sure the snows are significantly lighter than the Yoko's. I haven't checked.
As mentioned I didn't check on the weight of the wheels.

Again, no science involved, but I'm getting about 3mpg better with the 265/75/16 than with the 255/85/16.

    YMMV (and probably will).

There is roughly a 4.5% difference in circumference so if one tire travels 100 miles, the other travels 104.5 miles. Bring that down to 20 miles, the other is traveling 20.9 miles. It really is negligible.

The difference is weight and moreso weight in the worst location. The outside diameter of the wheels.

It takes more energy to get the larger heavier tire rotating to speed.

    Rotational acceleration.

My mileage went down a few MPG's with 255/80r17. If I were to do it again, I would stick with 265/75r16's. Better MPG and the extra size tire is not changing how I go off-road.

Yeah, the fact that the error in this case is significantly less than the observed change is like 50% of why I haven't cared enough to do the math (or to even track the data so that I could do the math). The other 50% is that I don't care enough to actually track the data.

It just seems to be a bit of a pattern that every time someone says they didn't account for the tire perimeter difference someone has to point out this detail and why their "statement" is wrong.

I'm just admitting mine isn't "scientific data", it's anecdotal "observation" (which is probably a better word than evidence).

I love my Yoko's for the purpose they serve, and am willing to pay for the fuel difference. There is a fuel difference according to my observations.

Agree, I see it every time someone posts about gas mileage and tire size, "you must account for the tire size change and distance traveled". Reality is, the change in distance traveled is often insignificant (3% - 5%). It is the weight and where that weight is.

My young son racing bicycles taught me plenty about rotational acceleration and building light weight wheels, trying to keep the weight closer to the hub than out at the tire.

Anybody have pizza cutters on SCS Ray10 or Blaze10 wheels? Looks like they come in 17x8.5 -10mm options.

Are you wondering because you want to see pictures or if they will fit?

I'm currently running Mickey Thompsons 255/85/17s on Icon Rebound Pros that are 17x8.5... When I called Mickey Thompson to be sure I'd be OK with the rim choice one engineer said I'd be fine because the tread patch was still bigger then the width of the wheel. However a follow up call with a different engineer informed me that "Yes they should work, however because I choose a rim that wasn't in spec for that tire size my warranty could or would be voided".
