LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
I believe the stock fog light bulb on the newer ones is an H16 which is a lower wattage bulb than an H11.

It could be I have a base truck so it had no fogs. I picked up a used set of factory fogs from the buy sell here and they had h11’s

H11 Tungsram Platinums are what is recommended for the fogs.

Lucky score if you bought the high performance wide angle TRD H11 fogs without knowing, vs the low output H16 fogs from non-TRD 16-19 trucks or all 20+ trucks.

Thoughts on using hella 2.0 h9 instead of Philips h9?

Hella H9 Performance 2.0 bulbs covered in post #1577 here.

The Hellas are slightly whiter, the Philips slightly brighter. Both are good upgrades. The Hellas likely have a shorter lifespan than the Philips.

How can you tell the difference ? I had no idea besides led fogs that there were two different types. They were pretty cheap was not worth getting some no name fogs off Amazon so i went that route. I took a quick picture this is with the h9 currently installed

The smooth reflector optic that extends to the right side of the lamp in the photos. The H16 units have diffuser ribs all the way around so both sides of the lamp look similar. An H11 or H9 would also not easily fit the H16 units.

You can see the H9 lacks the glare cap like an H11, exposing oncoming drivers to the light source causing glare. Hence part of the reason for the H11 recommendation. There part being without the glare cap the lights have no cut off, causing upward light spill/glare reducing their effectiveness in fog.

It's more of the anti-glaring coating on my prescription glasses than visible tints on other bulbs.

There's nothing blue about it from what I can see.

Is it an iridescent rainbow looking coating? Any chance you could get a good pic of it? Maybe on a white sheet of paper?

You can also see on the H16 assembly, the ribbed texture goes all the way around the lamp vs the H11 units posted earlier.

Appears to be a blue coating, just a very light one. Per Sylvania's site, the bulb features a blue coating filter to remove warm colored light (which reduces output). I see specs on 3rd party sites saying it is 4000k and 2000 lumens, which sounds typical of a Silverstar. An unfiltered H9 is about 3200k and spec'd at 2100 lumens. But the legal specs allow +/- 15% varience from 2100 lumens.

~3 years of a Phillips H9 vs a brand new one (both Germany). After looking on my computer I kinda wish I had taken out a macro lens for more detail...

Parked next to a late model Lexus GX460.

The Sylvania H9 is definitely warmer than these factory LED headlights.

Yeah, 4000k Silverstars are way below 6000k LED color temps. A 6000k halogen would have such dark blue filters they’d produce very little light and wouldn’t be safe as a headlight.

Sorry this took so long. Slipped my mind until today. 7D2F1451-B48D-4F39-93E6-B5A0647010DE.jpgFA1E9D97-BA6C-4D87-9607-36DA97715553.jpgB275F801-177E-4CA3-BCC3-314F16607555.jpg
First two are low beams. Third is high beam. I assumed the low beams were the same so didn’t note which one was on the inside or outside. The high beam is very very blue. All camera settings were locked as far as I could tell. Projectors were within a couple inches of each other (mounted to the internal headlight bracket.

That highbeam unit looks like the LED may be becoming damaged due to heat burning the phosphor layer away. Did you note any signs of thermal paste smooshed out around the LED pcb? It may have a very short lifespan going forward unfortunately.

Edit- it does look like the two lowbeams use the same setup, but different cutoff shield to create the step. Thank you for the photos.

It was doomed to a short life when I got my hands on it anyway haha. Bought it as an exploration project with no intention of using it or leaving it usable. I did note that the high beam was pulling 73W while the two low beams were pulling 21W combined. Very likely it was running way too hot. I did not notice anything different between the high and low beam chip when I had the reflector off

Wow, 73w? Yeah, I'd say the LED is shorting out and drawing way too much power. Or perhaps thats the driver circuitry shitting the bed, nuking the emitter alkng the way.

Any testing or technical input to be had on the six sided LED bulbs I am seeing lately (for projector use) ?
