Mine are also Redlines (2016+ Toyota Tacoma Hood QuickLIFT ELITE)

I purposely open the hood at least once a week just for the sheer enjoyment! lol

That encourages me to do a visual inspection as well as pull the oil dip stick and check the level.

Another habit I do is at the Gas Station...once I set the nozzle (if it's not broken) I'll do a walk around my Sport inspecting the tires for nails or anything unusual.

In the almost 2 years of ownership, I found one nail in the tire which needed my attention.

This thread has been hijacked. Back to the original OP.

There is NO WAY there was sand, actual SAND on the dipstick, the oil cap was off for 2 months, and your engine was still running. Sand is the second hardest material on earth - behind diamonds - and it destroys engines in seconds.

SO your premise is BS, you're trying to get something for nothing, and the dealer should tell you to get lost. Seriously.

    ----

OP also stated he checked there was sand on the dipstick every check "I did which was like 6 times"

You checked your oil SIX times and observed sand on the dipstick and continued to drive? NFW. You checked your oil SIX times and didn't observe the oil cap missing? NFW

    - - -

I also check the historical weather from January 1 2023 to the present day and there was only ONE single day it even dipped below 32F. TXDOT most certainly did NOT sand the freeways from El Paso to Houston. That is patently absurd.

Quartz is the third hardest mineral, but still harder than steel. Second hardest is corundum.

This past Wednesday the roads were sanded I took i10 the whole way back. I checked the oil because I noticed the cap was missing and noticed the sand and then proceeded to stop driving. I visibly saw the sand as well as the trucks that were sanding the roads. You can go ahead and go off your search. I drove 10 February 2nd as well as have other people that were with me that saw the sand/sediment on the dip stick.

I also stood next to my truck at the dealer when they pulled the stick and noticed the sand as well. The tech, service manager and who they called the foreman all observed the sand on the stick and in the filter.

    OP,

    Glad you answered!

Although, your story may sound absurd to some...only you know what you experienced. I hope your Tacoma brings you many years of driving adventures!

Thanks for engaging with the recommendation of the hood struts.

I'm sure you figured out I was embellishing with my two suggestions to encourage opening your hood and also improving the overall driving experience by suggesting a Tune.

The focus is your thread topic...and if you've been here long enough, you'll know people add their thoughts (whether helpful or not) to suggest other points of interest in these trucks.

    No harm, no foul!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully, moving forward...your truck gives you many years of enjoyment.

Dang that’s rough… I hope this didn’t cause permanent damage … but that seems unlikely. Hope they own up to an engine repair/if/when it happens

Maybe you should trade your truck in and get a new one. What dealer was this?

don’t know where you got your info but there’s plenty of road between El Paso and Houston to check the temp got down in the 20s and I also didn’t knowingly drive like that I found the problem a few days after. Not sure why you’re so upset about it though lol wouldn’t wish misfortune on anyone over a post though also i could be wrong maybe it was salt but it was a tan tinted powder being dumped from a truck

    LOL!

Sounds like the concern is more with others than you.

That's why I said, only you know what you experienced.

How you relay that here is another story...it's obviously open to interpretation.

Change your oil every 5K miles and install your hood struts so you can enjoy opening the engine bay!

They said they would honor anything that happens but are confident the oil filter got anything before it could cause harm
