i’m curious if they’re going to announce the 4Runner and Tacoma at the same time and potentially consolidate both models into a similar platform.

I don't dislike it but I'm certainly happy with having picked up my 2023. I've never been a fan of squared-off corners.
It's also similar enough to the previous gen that the previous gen still looks relevant.

if it ends up having a better powerband with a little more pep and torque in the right places and has as good or better payload/towing capacities, I'd happily own something that looks like this.

I agree with you...the issue is that the manufacturers always render the $50,000 version. Whereas most folks are in a $40,000 or less version. I get it, can purchase and mod, etc as well. But I'm always more interested in seeing a trim package "below the top" than the top trim package in all new vehicle releases.

This is decent looking. It’ll have a lot to go up against with the new ZR2 costing about the same money but having 310hp/430tq under the hood and on 33s, so maybe Toyota gives it a little more pep instead of just having a small light bar in the grill? Here’s hoping.

    Raptor lights? :notsure:

Yesterday I saw a Interceptor Utility Ford Explorer, with a Raptor grille and lights.

These renders were just created by some random scrub on the internet, not an official source. I mainly care about the overall body lines, which they yanked from that allegedly leaked patent filing and just added some colors in photoshop.

As long as the body follows what's been "leaked" through the patent and/or the EV concept vehicle, wheels, tires, and suspension can all take care of the rest.

Definitely interested in seeing the lower trims, but ultimately, nothing is official until Toyota pushes it out themselves and it's highly unlikely they'll start the official unveiling on anything other than the top one or two trims.

If the payload or towing capacity drop with the new generation though, that's going to be a huge pitfall for me considering it, as my 2020 Tacoma is right on the bleeding edge of the capabilities I need already. But if it maintains at least the same capacities with torque coming on at 1700-2000 RPM instead of 3700 and looks even remotely like these "leaks", I'll be taking a real hard look.

Yeah i hear you for sure.

It's like the "squared-offness" of the frontier. It looks great in the pro4x...but the lower end models...no chance (for me).

Lots of sheet metal creases, kinda like the latest Rav4 gen. Dont mind the look at all but its definitely an incremental change, at least on the outside.

“Clearance lights” that are on Ford Raptors & now on everything else… but they do serve a purpose on wider trucks/vehicles.

Probably just a slight increase of a mile or two per gallon, no other mid-sized offering averages 25. You would need to step down to the compact Maverick to hit those kinds of numbers.

They’re for wide vehicles. It seems dumb to put them on narrow trucks.

    Well, that's disheartening.

So is it likely that we will finally get the reveal at the Chicago Auto Show next week?
