OP, I highly recommend you meet these people at a public location, not their house. And 100% do not opt for "delivery". All you're doing is showing them where to come back and steal your replacement tailgate.

My thoughts exactly. I’m texting with them right now and they said all of that “I can deliver today” and everything. I said I’d be available to meet if they can send me more photos because it looks more Cement Grey than Lunar Rock with the photo they sent me.

Did the Trail Edition come in Cement? I'm pretty sure that's a Trail badge.

Here's the same tailgate in a different ad with more photos.

Wow, that looks really close. Do they pull the tumblers out of the lock? If so couldn’t you put your key in there and see if it works? Would be pretty irrefutable

Meet them in the police station parking lot for their 'delivery'.

Based on this photo, I think I can go out on a limb here and say with 99.9% certainty that this guy's a thief.

I’m texting him right now, he sent photos of the actual tailgate.

    D297C456-7BDA-4925-BA4E-9A6B5F94C2F7.jpg 9A167C60-7AF0-4719-839D-31328D61B49E.jpg

It looks cement in some lighting but I think I’m going to pick it up anyway because of how cheap it is if it is legit.
My question now for this or any future used tailgates is— has anyone had theirs rekeyed to your truck key? Or do I need to have a key made for the lock? Worst case scenario I’ll just get the adapter to have the tailgate lock with my key fob.

Just ordered this for whatever tailgate I have in the near future— assuming I won’t have to rekey since it’ll work with my key fob, cheaper than rekeying or getting a key made.

Don't forget a hinge protector. Lock is easy defeat, especially with a softtopper. The hinge deal is much harder to dismantle.

Couldn’t you just test out your key in the lock? I doubt theives put enough effort in to change the lock.

The green one has a tailgate lock installed. You can see the other wires that were cut and stripped.

In addition to a Sabelco, I want to etch my plate # on my tailgate and also wire feed weld it on my cats. Also keep a mastiff underneath next to the fuel tank and a Rottweiler in the backseat.
