Can you just take it out and wrap a zip tie around it?

 

In my mind, when someone says “lugging the engine” means being in a high gear trying to go uphill pretty much flooring it.

When I cruise in 6th at 40 or whatever, it’s always flat, maybe even a bit downhill. I barely even press the gas pedal. Maybe 1-2%? I don’t let my engine struggle at all. I don’t think I’m lugging my engine by doing that.

FWIW. Buddies 19 OR AT cruises at 1100 RPMs or so, stock 3.90 gears. No issues whatsoever. If his truck can cruise at 1100 RPMs with 3.90 gears, pretty sure I’m not hurting anything if lightly “touching” the gas pedal at 1200 RPMs or so with 4.30 gears.

 

I was a bit shocked to learn about clutch safety switch when I came here haha.

 

It is a nice feature.

 

It's an off-roading feature. I use the switch to start in gear in inclines when I don't want my truck to roll-back. It does wear out your starter though so I only use it if necessary.

 

It’s been around a long time as a feature on Toyota Trucks with Manual Transmission. My 1992 came equipped with one. I chuckled when I realized that Toyota was still including them on 3rd gens and they look identical to my CSC in my 1992.

 

There are times when I wonder why Toyota changed the parking brake. Another one of those OG things.

I don't have a favorite as both worked well, just surprised at the change.

 

My son, who was a Plane Captain in a F-18G Growler squadron kind of misses the old school parking brake in his 2009 Tacoma. Why? Same parking brake handle as used in the F-18 Super Hornets.

 

I just love how I'm still finding new things about the Taco after all these years. I no longer need the clutch start switch defeat mod. If I hit that clutch start limit switch with my toe, the Taco will start in gear. I had a suspicion that it might not as the pedal would also be activating the other limit switch at the same time.

Friggin' killer!


Also! For the foil hat crew, this could double as a kill switch for them. Just grind that pad off the clutch pedal. You'd get a no-start condition until you toe that switch.

You didn't accidentally get an automatic mat did you? I've heard of people with third gens (not sure if same with second gen) just ordering mats and not realizing they are different for the MT. The dead pedal area is bigger on automatics I think and the extra material sticks out in the way of pushing the clutch pedal all the way down if you put one in an MT truck. Could be remembering wrong or it is different on 2nd gen, but first thing that came to mind.

Ohh nice where'd you get that one? I looked on Etsy before for them but all the ones I saw were too big or weird colors. That looks like a good subtle-sized one.

 

I even had to notch a little square for my clutch pedal in my brand new Husky all weather.

 

I've stuck with the OEM winter mats for the front on my '20. They cover pretty well and have decent size lips to hold in the water. Not quite as good as the Husky and Weathertech, but they have worked well up there. On the other hand, I did finally break down this winter and replace the rear mat with a Husky X-Act Contour because the OEM one back there didn't really have great coverage, especially over the doorsills, so my kids were getting salt all over back there and it was a pain to clean out in the springs.

 

Just move that switch to somewhere sneaky!

 

It's already in a pretty sneaky spot. But, yeah. Move it up or down an inch, and the pedal pad wouldn't hit it.

The immobilizer is enough security for me.

 

Was it the same as the first gen on the dash? I hated that thing lol. Doing the whole riding the ebrake on a hill unit the clutch engages was a PITA with that dash brake in my first gen.

 

…or to let you warm up the truck while you remove your ski boots. Or some work/hunting boots that have some nasty stuff on them …..I’m not being prissy with the truck, it’s just nice not to have to scrape blood or coal off the pedals.

 

Those sort of fall under the first case. But, yeah. Not caking the controls in goo is always a good thing. I had silt from a lake bad down there once. It took quite a while for it to get all cleaned up.

 

The OEM all weather mats I got were thin and fine with the clutch sensor. The weather tech aftermarket mats were thicker and more trouble to start but they have better containment and coverage.

I’m not certain if 2nd Gen has the same transmission specific as third Gen does for OEM mats as the ones I bought didn’t specify. But I don’t think weathertech makes two different sets.

For my 3rd Gen I stick with OEM MT (swapped from the stock set to a pro set because I liked the pattern on my bare feet a bit more.
