Had an 08 for a few years and sold it. I wasn’t a fan of the leather interior, horrible gas mileage like the 5.7 because it's AWD, rear air bags will an expensive fix but do provide a comfort ride, and the high beam is horrible. The fold up third row can be annoying at time and I really hate the rear hatch designed, swing out vs vertical open. Other than that, they're good suv for what they are.

That's how you would hope an insurance company would treat you - still waiting on an estimate and fingers crossed I get some of that good treatment you received. We have state farm which I've heard good things about on tacomaworld so we shall see. So far they have been pretty unresponsive and haven't asked me for any details. Being patient and giving them the full 10 days they state it may take for an estimate to come through.

The GX was originally to replace my 2006 f150 with the infamous 5.4L 3V so I'm already accustomed to the terrible gas mileage - I just can't resist the buttery smoothness of V8s. With the Taco no longer in the picture the GX will become my next adventure rig. Looking forward to ripping those airbags out and putting in a proper suspension - I'm excited for it as my next Toyota build. I'm sure I will be back in a taco in the future - you can never have too many Toyotas =)

Glad your future wife didn't end up really injured! Those photos are pretty sobering.
For the insurance, if you can document any upgrades that you have made withing the last 12 months, most insurance companies will take that into consideration when adjusting your claim. For the vehicle itself, you can get comparable sales ads from a 150 mile radius and that is what they will use as a starting point for making you an offer on what will obviously be considered a total loss claim. Insurance companies will often use the lowest priced comps that they can find and you should use the highest price comps, especially if your truck was well maintained, etc...Good luck!

My 01 DCSB SR5 Tacoma was totalled 3 years ago. Mostly stock. I have Esurance and they gave me $10,600. 245,000 miles on it. I was pretty darn pleased with that payout:thumbsup: still miss the truck though
Just a reference point for ya. Sorry about the truck and glad the lady is Ok:D

Finally was able to settle with statefarm. Was not a pleasant experience with numerous errors on their end and many hours of waiting on hold to fix problems they caused (was told conflicting info each time I spoke with someone, was not assigned a single point of contact I could call who would handle the claim, they entered the vin wrong, lost our title we mailed in, etc.) - It felt like I had to call them every time they would tell me they would do something to actually get it done. The saving grace of all this is that the used car market in CA is insane. Any guesses from you all on settlement amount? ~180k miles, 2001 xtra-cab 2.7L 4x4 with a TRD sticker for +5HP that someone slapped on long-before I purchased the truck.

PS: I still have a set of brand new in the box Bud-Built skids for a 1st gen if anyone is interested (currently in CO but will be road-tripping out to CA in April and can them with me). They are listed in the for-sale forum so feel free to send me a DM if interested.

You are close if you flip your numbers around. Settled at $20.5k, was able to negotiate to get only $500 for all my aftermarket parts and got lucky with comp vehicles they chose. Despite the shape of the truck post accident buyback would have been over $5k

Impressive indeed, considering that the MSRP of that vehicle when it was new in 2001 was $18,375!
    Good job!
