For those that want a chimney but will probably never use, don’t get it.
I just got the estimate to rebuild ours after a tree hit it. Just over $56,000……how do you like that?

    Happened in July.
It’s brick built, but has stone masonry covering the brick.
Full stone, not the “ veneer” stuff.

Yes, but it like most insurance.
    Negotiations……..

    We will figure it out.
Sitting at $120k+ for home repairs.
    (That’s not enough)……

Move. I hear New Jersey is nice this time of year :luvya:

But that’s crazy. Would it make more sense to remove the chimney and do whatever repairs necessary to seal up the house?

If they hadn’t already done the roof repair and shingles, possibly? Maybe? (I’m not a home builder)
Not to mention, the chimney is large and takes up a good portion of the exterior wall.
It would likely cost more to “delete” the chimney.

Like I say, I’m a DIY guy at best.
This is beyond my skill set and level.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

    Yeah, well…
I can’t say I was too concerned with dental hygiene until “I was concerned” about dentals hygiene. I usually brushed once a day, sometimes I went a couple days. My biggest problem was soft drinks and tobacco (dip).

I no longer dip or drink sugar based drinks.

Maybe you should go with me and hold my hand.
That place is scary. And it’s not the dentist I’m scared of, it’s the bill he hands me afterwards.
We could even tell them I’m your “kid”, that way you can pay the bill for me?

I might be driving the old girl to Myrtle Beach this April to have my Uncle Jeff paint the wheels black. My mom's side of the family is having their family reunion in Hilton Head, so I'd be going to South Carolina anyway; I would prefer to drop the truck with my uncle on the way down there instead of having to drive two hours back up from Hilton Head, but I don't think it's going to play out this way. There is chance that I will hit 165K either on the way down or while I'm down there, so if that's the case, my uncle will change the oil for me too...

As long as I don't have to drive in Boston again, there might be another Massachusetts trip in the works...
