I would be very careful at putting an out of state plate on while using it here in CA. Local, municipal police wouldn't care much, CHP is what you should be worry about. It's bad enough with out of state plate, now imagine 70" wms axles with 40" tires sticking out the fender. An eye catcher and the perfect reason to get pulled over.

What will get you in trouble is when you get pulled over, you'll provide them with a CA driver's license, out of state registration, and a CA insurance card.

CHP have a hotline and online reporting for those residing in CA with non-CA plate.
    https://www.chp.ca.gov/notify-chp/chp-reg-(out-of-state-registration-violators)

My buddy kept his vehicle registered in NV when he moved back, someone report him. After 4 months of being here, CHP officer knock on his door and gave him the ultimatum, giving him the next 5 days to get the vehicle registered in CA or a citation will be issue.

Gotcha. I don't have the steering wheel anymore, but I can definitely loan you the air bag before I dispose of it. Or if you want it, you can keep it.

    well shit!!

I'll have mud flaps. lol:D .... mind, you, I won't be driving it daily. I was going to register the runner too, but I decided it's not worth it since it's a daily. Spoke to my friend at DMV last night, she said I should be ok with the Tank, but did not recommend on a daily

Hold on to it please, I'll give it back to you if I go that route.

Well stated. All it takes is one pissed off LEO to start with you over your tags. Could be CHP, could be a bored local looking for some revenue. Your truck also sticks out, no flying under the radar.

Another thing to consider is insurance. If the vehicle has out of state tags and an accident occurs, good luck. You clearly reside in CA, and insurance companies look for anything they can to deny claims.

I'm in Livermore every week if you need me to pickup/drop off.
I never registered my 3rd gen 4Runner in CA and had it here for about 3 years, no problem.
Mind you it was not my daily and it was parked in a garage.

True that. Depends on the cop. As for insurance, I did call my insurance company and they stated it will not be an issue. But that was also a concern of mine.

Thanks brother, let me see what happens before I have you go out of your way. But I do appreciate it.

Your insurance company ok’ed covering a vehicle with SD plates permanently located in CA? I believe you, just can’t believe they’d be good with that.

And another thing to look into is SD laws on insurance. Make sure they won’t revoke your registration for lack of state insurance.

it would only be liability ins only. This county is very laid back. but won't hurt to check that either. Good point.

What if they are a terrible human being? Would that justify taking such an action?

yup. Like the asshole who reported my truck for sitting way back in MY driveway. :brianr:. All good karen, it’s taken care of now! Lol. Think it’s the neighbor across the street, but I dont want to assume either. Lol. Probably the same individual who made a complaint about my carport that was built before I bought my home and was told that it needed to come down 11 years later….

Wow what a POS!! I had a neighbor rat me out on a deck I was "resurfacing". Jokes on you Karen, I do regulatory compliance for a living, so I have my arguments pre setup to explain why I didn't pull a permit!!

People need to mind their own business!

They'll be the same stupid a-hole that will report your truck for displaying out of state plate.
