Considering selling taco

Ok, well I got my taco roughly about two months ago. Absolutely love it. But with gas prices going the way they are and having to drive 60 miles round trip to work everyday, im considering buy a 4WD 4 cylinder taco instead. My current one is a 2002 DC TRD 4x4 V6 with 121k miles. No rust besides on the bumper. New tires & brakes. Just wondering what you guys think would be a fair asking price? I'm by no means in any hurry to sell it, but if I could and buy a 4 cylinder that would be great. Just trying to get some ideas on a price. thanks

 

the 4cyl wont save you enough on gas to justify ditching the 6 ... so either suck it up or get a cheap ass commuter if you can afford insurance on 2 vehicles.

 

Damn, really. I thought they got upwards of 23MPG or so. I had a civic and my dumbass sold it...

 

You were smart for selling the civic. Keep what you got . It would be pointless to sell it. To down size to a four banger would just piss you off due to no take off speed and no power.

No, the best I ever got out of my old 4 banger was 21 but its a single cab 5 speed

 

Not really to be honest. Your having to push the engine twice as much and adding more gas to move the same speed. long highway drives will give you the 21 to 25 mpg but thats after you dump 11 to 14 mpg's just trying to get up to speed on to the highway. Where as the six takes less effort to get up to speed hints saving the gas. Its the same with the take off from lights too. the four you push twice as much just to keep up with traffic where the six doesn't need it pushed . Make since ?

It only became a competition in your mind not mine. My purpose for posting that was that everyone is suffering the same pain in paying at the pump so. Yes I'm paying for college, and yes I'm paying for gas who else would be paying for my gas???

 

I have a 2.7 4wd regular cab and only get 16 mpg. No lift, bone stock except for a camper shell.
A 4cyl might not save you as much gas as you think. Plus they have NO power.
My sons 4runner has the 3.4 and it gets 19 MPG and has PLENTY of power.

all of these people trying to say a 4 banger doesn't save gas are wrong. I just read another thread like stating that 4 bangers get horrible mileage b/c u have to stay in 4th gear till 60 or 70 which is BS. I shift from 1st to 2nd at 10 mph, 2nd to 3rd at 20, 3rd to 4th at 30, and 4th to 5th at 40 every time (i have no tach) and i get 22 mpg country roads (i have no city) and 24 mpg highway. Im lifted 1 inch, have 17in wheels, and 32 tires. yes you save gas with a 4cyl 5 speed reg cab

 

Missed the boat, what most are saying is that you dont save enough to justify the cost getting out of a recently purchased vehicle, moving to another.. OP will lose out.

 

I currently drive a 2001 excab 2.7 4 cylinder with an auto transmission. I average 19 mpg, a real let down considering I bought the 4 cyl for the same reasons you are thinking about changing over.

The guys that are saying they get better mileage are all using the 5 speed transmission. The auto tranny in these trucks rob power!

Recap - Stick with what you have, or get a single cab 5 speed for slightly better MPG's.

Consider the true savings in mileage. If you drive 60 miles a day, 5 days a week, that's roughly 15000 miles a year.

Assume gas prices get worse and gas is $4/gal. Also assume a 4 cyl gets 23mpg hwy and a 6 cyl gets 18 mpg.

The 4 will consume roughly 652 gallons, the 6 will consume 833.

That's an annual cost of $2608 for the 4, $3332 for the 6. Broken down per month, the 6 costs $60 more per month to drive, or roughly $720/year.

That's not chump change for a lot of people, but it shouldn't be enough to send you to the poor house either. If you change your assumptions about mileage, the gap between the 4 and 6 shrinks. I actually just squeaked out 20 mpg today filling up my 3.4, and many people are claiming they only get 21-22 mpg out of their 4 cyl. If I drove highway only, I bet I could come close to the 4 cylinder trucks.

I also don't know why people want to compare 2wd and 4wd trucks. If you're driving a 4wd truck on the street, you should only be turning the rear two wheels, and the efficiency advantage of a 2wd truck is gone. I'd wager most people don't need 4wd for their daily commute.
