I rotated mine every 5k until 15k miles. Now with 18k miles, two of the four tires plugged, suspension parts waiting to be installed and new tires/wheels coming I refuse to rotate the factory crap any longer. :D OEM tires are practically junk after 18k miles anyway.

Bring back the 5 tire rotation! i mean if i had a 5th nice wheel id 100% do 5 tire rotations.

I went back to square tires. It eliminated all possible rotations issues!! :)

I'm not sure that the spare tire was factored in to OP's math.

I did a few calculations for everyone's benefit and took the spare tire into account.

    Where:

    • alpha = rim size (in inches)
    • L = age of air in tires (in miliseconds)
    • delta = compression of cylinder # 3 (in stone per square decimeter)

I won't insult the reader's intelligence by defining the remaining variables in the equation.

As should be obvious from the above, the rotation interval (including the spare) should be once every 4812 hours, 22 minutes, and 3 seconds - with a deviance not to exceed 0.05 seconds.

And, none of this front-to-back or side-to-side crap. The decision as to where each individual tire should be moved is to be made via a random number generator.

There are times when a given tire will not be moved from its position during a rotation cycle. Chaos theory is your friend.

Edit: Forgot to add that this is for the TRD Pro only.

For all other Tacomas, it's every 10,000 miles.

So this is still going eah - - here is my 2cents

I rotate the truck tires every 5K - Discount Tire does this for free b/c I got the tires there.
I supervise so nothing stupid happens like not torquing the lug nuts or trying to torque them while it is still in the air . . .been there/done that nonsense, learned my lesson about auto techs..
Tires are wearing nice and evenly

My car has a staggered set up so no rotation there = easy
    I burn 2x rears to 1x fronts
I kill the rears in about 12K miles = a good warranty discount on the new tires b/c Continental has a 25K mile warranty [actually 50K but on a staggered gotta divide it in half] on the tires so they pro/rate the replacement pair
I used to think tire warranties were hog wash - however this situation has worked out well for me

I can see where OP was going on the thought process - the best thing you can do is know your driving habits/patterns, how they affect the tire wear and rotate accordingly; also keep an eye out for uneven wear as that usually indicates something else may be amiss..

    Your math is wrong.
I know this because I don’t understand it.

Isn’t that how this works now? If you don’t understand it’s “wrong”.

You guys didn’t even account for air pressure.
Get out of here with your maths…..:D

I beg your pardon? My math is impeccable.

And, lest someone bring up the fact that there are 2 variables in the equation that are time-dependent (age of air in tires and compression of cylinder #3)....

Using the units of stone per decimeter and of milliseconds leads to an inverse correlation between air age and compression. As air age goes up, compression goes down by the same amount.

    Duh!

So what you’re saying is, it’s dependent on the Earth rotation around the sun.
    Makes perfect sense.

I usually eat my rear tires halfway down before the fronts get halfway. when it gets to this point, i just swap the fronts and the rears. after another 25k, they are worn evenly and its about time for new tires.

you are overthinking this (unless you have an alignment issue)

each vehicle will have front/back wear differences. my camry is the opposite of my truck, the fronts get worn first, but it's the same procedure. and then end up even at about the mileage that it is time for new tires.
