Possible the computer would fault out after a few seconds of not detecting an engagement (resistor won't have emf pulse).

Def worth a test to see if it gets the resistor too hot.

What do you mean by “I swapped axles to an auto LSD”? Do you mean you installed a 3rd gen axle without a locker (ie an axle from a trim other than a OR or Pro)? Auto LSD is not a feature of the axle. It’s a feature of the braking system and all trims have it.

I’m also curious why you downgraded your axle.

What LSD did you install, based on my searching, there is no LSD unit available for the 3rd Gen Tacoma 8.75" rear diff. There is only the factory open, factory E-Locker, the ARB airlocker and the Eaton/Harrop E-Locker.

    Yeah, dont do that please.
The ECU will try to drive that resistor at approx 4amps while the feedback sensor shows 'not locked'...
Because the diff lock may normally take quite a bit of driving until it locks, the diff lock will not trip an ECU fail-safe for quite a bit of time.

This is not a good area to push the envelope, unless a 100 w resistor is used, and its positioned to dissipate the heat.

If I’m following this saga correctly (and I hope I am not), OP, you damaged the rear locker switch/connector, couldn’t find a way to fix it, so replaced the entire axle with one that doesn’t have a locker (thinking it has a limited slip differential which is likely not true), and now you are inserting a paper clip into the locker connector in order to use 4wd.

I’m surprised this paper clip idea didn’t result in a blown fuse or damage to your electrical system. Shorting stuff out isn’t generally a good idea.

Im assuming its a auto LSD, was cheaper to buy that than to replace the lock coil in my factory diff. I see someone posted the old thread. Heres the story , after i posted that thread and got nothing but sarcastic and snotty answers i pulled the diff out and soldered the coil wires back onto the passthru where they had come off in the first place. This still did not fix the locker so i brought it to toyota in which they said i needed a new lock coil in the diff.

Hope that answers all the curious minds

The 2nd Gen did have easier mods with straight jumpers and such. I would have been happy with one of the 2nd Gens that I test drove, but I do very much enjoy my 3rd Gen.

Certainly consider what @BigWhiteTRD posted above. Might be an easy solution for you?

No, that still doesn't answer the question. Was a complete rear axle assembly installed, or just the differential in the third member. The only reason I am curious, is as I stated in my earlier post, I have not found a manufacturer that is currently making an LSD unit for the factory diff that originally came installed in your truck. Since I have a Sport with a manual I have the larger diff and am interested in options. Although I think my preference will be the factory E-locker for my needs.

Update, just unplugged the module in head liner and that did not change anything. Going to look for a fuse and try that but I don’t see one clearly marked locker or diff

It looks like you are trying to disable an electronic wheel locker. Would you like some assistance?

The only reason to even say “auto LSD” is to imply it is simulated thru the brakes. It’s a bummer nobody makes an LSD or auto locker for your diff yet, maybe in due time. Could always weld it :D

    Since I brought it up...
    No.
Once you wire in the 3ohm resistor, I asked @BigWhiteTRD if it wouldn be prudent to disconnect the roof switch. If you accidentally pushed said switch, you would send voltage through the said resistor. Bad ju-ju...
    Sorry for the confusion.
