About to start my own oil changes and considering the valve. Until I get one what is the right torque for drain plug/ valve? Does it really matter?

If you don’t have access to a torque wrench, snug it down hand tight, then tighten 1/8th of a turn.

This is what I did, had it on after my first oil change. No problems.

As for those that are saying it drains slow, the new versions they make have bigger drain opening than old ones.
It's always completed draining by the time I get the new oil filter in.

The wait wasn't an issue when I had one in the jeep. I would just doodle around under it or under the hood checking more stuff until it was done. Gave me time to look over cv boots, look for fluid leaks, things like that.

I had one on my 2005 Taco, 2002 Isuzu. Have one waiting to be installed on the new 2022 Taco, after the 2nd free oil change is done, or sooner. Clowns at dealership already stripped the screw on the oil filter door past weekend and sent me out with 3 screws. I always check shop's work, glad I did it this time. They are supposed to get me a replacement. So may be I will forgo free oil change.

PS I am planning to go with the long nippled drain, since I have the Toyota's TRD crash plate. Will add a hose and route to the same drain pan as the house from the filter.

I think the oil drain fast enough. Start the draining process, then get out get the oil cap wrench and filter drain tool (I HATE the plastic dohikies that come with Toyota's filters), oil, paper towels.
Replace the filter, oil is drained by then. I buy OEM filters in 10ct cases, since wife's RAV4 and Taco use the same filter. Replace filter every time, why try to save $4.54??? Syn oil on sale, $10 to $15 for 5 qrts on sale.

Because Taco's OEM filter housing is plastic. Different part#.

I used the same part# ‎15620-31060 on 2014 RAV4 (replaced POS plastic) and have one sitting for my Taco.
Double check that the inner metal perforated tube on the new housing is the same length as on the plastic OEM housing. Use a measuring tape. If they are different, just bent 2 tabs and swap them.

I have the hose, but I’ve never tried attaching it yet. Great question!

I heard that these trd filters are good versus the full paper one.

I’m still a ways from my first oil change with the new fumoto installed.
Kind of wishing I got the short nipple to add a hose to it.

I was wondering about not having the drain plug magnet anymore and if that’ll be an issue over time. It always seemed to have some stuff to clean off, and now that’s not possible.

Worst case I can stick a strong magnet on the pan near the valve to at least hold stuff there.

Magnet holds stuff that filters doers not filter.
I used to stick a couple of hard drive magnets to my 2005 filter to catch metal. All 3 cars now use cartridge filters, so I cannot do that, but I still use magnets on my zero-turn mower.

I went with the valvomax instead of fumoto

3rd gens suck compared to 2nd gens when it comes to DIY oil changes. With a Fumoto valve it literally took me 10 minutes to change the oil and filter on my 2015. Didn’t have to raise the truck at all, just reached under and opened the valve. Loved having the filter on top of the engine…
