No voice commands with USB inserted

Have a new 2023 Tacoma TRD Sport and when I have a thumb drive plugged in for music the voice command stops working. It hangs at "Wait for the beep". I have to remove the thumb drive and reset the head unit to get coice command working again.

 

Mine doesn't work either

 

interesting, i have a 16 also but i guess i never use that function, i will try getting it to call someone by voice. keep USB in unit all the time. at least i know not to ask this question when mine does not work.

 

I noticed the other day mine didn't work. Today it hit me that it stopped about the same time i started using the thumb drive (same one I've used with my Harley Infotainment system for 6 years and in my previous Tundra). So today when voice didn't work i pulled the thumb drive out and still didn't work. Did a reset and voice worked. Plug thumb drive back in a d voice stopped working. Audio playback from the thumb drive works fine when I use that.

 

I did not know that you can use voice command for music. I thought it was just for calling or receiving phone calls. That is the way I use it on my Sport. just saying.

 

You can use voice for nav, music/radio, text, etc., or at least with what I have you can. Doesn't work for any it though when I have a thumb drive plugged in. Take the thumb drive out, reset the system and voice works as it should with everything it should work with.

 

what do you mean by re set the system....turn it off then turn it back on?

 

Thanks I will have to read my owners nav manual and see how to voice command radio, navigation. I did not know that you can text from the truck. Must you be parked for that. My phone is paired with the radio through Bluetooth so it is totaly hands free.

Do you use bluetooth for your phone then you will have it. Not sure if it works on a cable attached phone though. Do you have the premium package with Nav etc.

 

nah, just the basics. no worries.

 

If you hold the power button/volume control down on the head unit for about 5-10 seconds it does a reset.

 

Premium package with Nav. I have a flip phone connected via Bluetooth for calls and my business 'smart' phone connected via Bluetooth for audio. All of this works fine. Voice commands work fine provided there's no USB drive plugged into the USB port.

There's a few combinations I haven't tried yet with connected devices, but it's really not a huge deal since I can use my finger and do things faster than I can with voice. The only real downside is that some things it won't let you do while moving (searching for and setting a new destination for instance) can be done via voice while moving.

 

Interesting, I text from my truck all of the time. A text message comes in, I have the system read me the message, I select reply, and then dictate the response to the system and it sends it.

 

That is the whole concept of voice so you do not have to manually touch anything and safer for driving, no distraction. It still puzzles me to see some drivers still talking on their hand held phones. I thought by now that most manufacturers would have hands free tech in all of their new cars. just saying

 

Forgive me for verifying such a basic thing, but you are holding the button down until your voice assistant activates right?

 

Yes, I do receive text messages but did not know that I could dictate back a response. I need to read up more on this technology.

 

Yes, it will ask you for a command. You just tell it to call such a person and it will find it and comfirm with you before dialing

 

I only speak English, but my voice command doesn't seem to understand me. I never use it.

 

My question was directed at those that are having problems. I’m having no issues with my VA for USB, Radio, Satellite Radio or anything else.
