Agreed, that's why I have a "Sport". I'm not one for planning to Off-Road...but I'll watch a recommended show a friend from here suggested: Expedition Overland.

I was fortunate to get my TRD Skid plate for $306 including shipping (MSRP:$399). Matched it right up to the Talon CAT plate!

My military career took me to Hawaii for 4 years and I don't remember shipping anything crazy from the contiguous 48.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion...about anything. But when it's about a mutual subject, I look for positive responses that don't hit a "target fixation" nerve.

EDIT: Don't get me started on the $1400+ I just spent to upgrade my halogens to LEDs! lol

The OEM pro plate actually covers a little more of the engine than most after market plates. Any "good" plate maker will design the transmission plate to integrate into the OEM pro engine plate. I went with RCI for my transmission, transfercase, rear diff, and A-arms.

The a arms are the tricky ones. RCI modified mine so they would play nice with the larger OEM engine plate

Anyone know if there's a part number for the 12mm bolt towards the rear of the trd skid plate? And if toyota sells it separate from the skid plate or if it's something I can get from home depot or something? 20230208_222938.jpg

Don't know the part number but easy/cheap to get from HD/ ACE/ etc. It's a common size all over the taco, so you might have some lying around if you've done some mods.

Good choice on skid. Order and install took 2 weeks (Amazon) while waiting months for RCI (since cancelled) to get their production sorted.
    The wings make it fly.

I contacted the Bam Wholesale which is who I bought it from late last night. They got back to me this morning and is gonna send me that missing bolt so it's looking like it's all worked out. I just wanted to know what the bolt size would be in case they blew me off.

Incidentally, I saw a few pages up that owners here have installed the Talon's cat shield/skid plate with the allen head bolts and stripped them. I tried installing mine a few days ago and stripped on bolt bad. Friend tried to use an extractor bit for me and that went no where so now we're just waiting for our other friend to get back from his trip on the other side of the country so we can bring the truck to his place and get the bolt cut off or something. Needless to say, the Talon plate is on there until we can get rid of the stripped screw and I'm not sure if I can install the trd skid plate until we get that bolt off. I've since replaced all of the supplied allenhead bolts with hex/10mm bolts since I've almost never had luck with allen heads. I hate them with a stone cold passion.

Others used TRD skid plate or one of another brand (RCI, for example) to make a template (cardboard, plastic). Then either welded it themselves or found someone who does weld.

From what I have heard of Alaska (at least as independent as I would become), there must be someone you can contact who can manufacture one for even less than shipping costs. Post in the Alaska forum to see if anyone wants the chance to play with their welding mask: https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/alaska.118/

I purchased something like that from Amazon in 2021, but the brand was Lostar. Looking at my order history the Lostar is no longer available, but I see what looks like the same branded under Kaufu and a couple of other funky brand names. Like some of the reviewers say, I had to the switch around the front and back bolts and spacers but other than that it went on fine.
I ran up a snowbank (on purpose) and scraped the plate so some of the coating is flaking off by one of the bolts, but it's a skid plate doing what it's supposed to do.
I got mine because I got tired of dropping the sport's OEM plate for oil changes and I had stripped out one of the front weld nuts.
