Dual Battery/power bank reliable budget battery recommendations?

Hey guys looking to build a dual battery setup with only a 50ah lithium battery running only a fridge and charging small things, did a lot of research and this seems to be the most reliable reviewed, budget friendly option:

I don’t know much about this company but it has good reviews but a couple bad ones that say is only good for 6 months, these things are a pain to return I hear so I don’t want to get stuck with a paperweight, if anyone has experience with this battery I’d be interested to know your thoughts and how it’s holding up and how long you’ve had it, or some suggestions on another proven battery that’s budget friendly if not may just go the jackery or Bluetti route or save for battleborns.

Are you planning on tying this battery to the factory system?

I'm not sure how lithium ion batteries work with factory alternator and factory charging components.

Assuming the use of a battery isolator is sufficient, I would recommend using a LiFePO4, again, assuming safety is not an issue.

These batteries last 10x longer and are generally better all around. There are some things to consider though when using them in cold situations.

For ease of use and less headache, the lithium ion is probably the best route for sure.

If you are looking to go powerpack route, ecoflow is, IMHO, hands down the best way, especially with their new units.

Its a 100ah that came with the charger and has a built in 12v socket. I don't have it connected to the truck electrical and placed it in a box big enough to fit the battery and a solar control charger (100w x 2 solar panels mounted on roof of my rtt). Using anderson plugs so I can easily remove it if I don't need it. Only had if for a month so no long term longevity test but might give ya an idea on a cheaper alternative to those solar charger.

 

No tying to the alternator just but it self, do you have a eco flow unit?

 

I have an ecoflow river pro. Awesome unit and they just come out with an updated unit that is better. The river series is good for small electrical loads, but the delta series is a better option for higher needs. But, it's also about 500 more then the river series...

Now that eco flow has the river and delta series with the lifepo4 battery tech, it's a far better value then the lithium ones.

 

Lots of competition for jackery now it’s a wonder why they won’t change to P04 tech

 

I've been looking at the ecoflow delta mini. It looks like there is an eBay account 'ecoflowdirect' or something like that selling refurbished products with a renewed warranty. $529 for 883wh has me wanting to believe this is a good deal.

I would not advice using your alternator to charge LiPO batteries directly as they require a higher charge voltage - eventually the battery will be ruined along with your alternator. You'll need a DC to DC charger (like from Renogy) that can charge these batteries. Another option, as another has stated, is using solar with a charge controller that has a LiPO charge setting.

 

yeah I meant not tying to the battery, i need a dc to dc adapter of some sort for that correct seems far too complex compared to An agm battery

 

The good part is once you have a DC to DC charger, you can charge different chemistry batteries. The advantage of LiPO is you can utilize the full rated Ah of the batt. As opposed to AGM where you're only able to use half of the Ah. Plus the LiPO has more charge cycles.

 

Are you running a system like that?

 

Sorta. I have one agm batt being charged by my alternator using a Battery Doctor isolator. I also have a 200W solar setup that just charges my 100Ah LiPO. The agm runs my truck accesories and the LiPO runs my cooler.

 

That’s exactly how I wanted my setup I only want the lip04 to power a dc fridge cooler, what brand battery do you have?

 

I've got a Renogy 100Ah and a very rare Costco brand AGM deep cycle size 24. I say very rare because I cant find it anyway - I believe it's been discontinued.

 

how long have you been cycling/running the Renogy LI battery? Any issues so far?

 

No issues...been running over a year. Cycle wise, I don't really know - its a set it and forget it kinda setup with Renogy. The agm batt is at least 3 years. So it works for my needs.

 

Thanks for the info, I’m going to just spring the extra 70 bucks for renogy, I don’t really trust the ampere time li time battery, I just need to find the right solar controller for p04 battery
