How can I tell if my rear shocks are blown? Are 5160's rebuildable?

What would cause them or one to fail and potentially not the other?

I think my driver side one is shot...

I will get pics when I'm off work.

5160’s are rebuildable by Down South Motorsports in San Diego, CA. Even Bilstein recommends sending their shocks down there. They basically convert them to a rebuildable shock by adding a schrader valve to the reservoir to pressurize it after rebuilding. The oil in shocks is only good for so long before starting to break down. Old seals can begin to blow causing leaks or no longer able to hold pressure as well. Harsh bottom/top outs can cause premature wear on the shock’s internals causing failure too

    Thank you.

I'll have to buy some cheap 5100's I guess while they are being rebuilt.

I'll check out their pricing. Thanks.

First sign of fail is if they are “weeping” they will leak the oil out and they will look wet

or how I checked recently, unbolt the bottom bolt and nut and compress them. Should be pretty hard to compress them and they should come back out once you let go

Yeah last I checked it was around $250ish+. Paying for them to convert it to a rebuildable shock also. It was tax time so ended up going with Kings instead of rebuilding haha

I think I'll buy some 5125 and learn to rebuild them myself, if possible.
