I have a pair, they're expensive but great. The adjustment on them locks and keeps the jaws parallel, so once they're the right size they don't slip and mar bolt heads. Mine are the normal straight jaws, not the parrot beak ones. Harbor Freight has knocked them off, I believe, now, too but are still $40

Haha Thanks. You are right though. Many a sap will go in and buy and not give a damn on the end price.

I did turn down the bike. The sales guy has texted me twice since then and said they can do better. Should’ve done this from the get go. I going to check some other places.

A guy I work with has bought his last three bikes from a place in West VA. It’d be a days drive round trip (8 hours with gas and the piss stops) but they don’t charge for prep, setup or freight. The down side is, they don’t have the bike right now.

Yep. Whenever somebody says they buy and sell bikes I run. Unless… @Fulton246 is selling then I lowball him.

I took a look at their dealer map and there is one within roughly 100 miles of everywhere I would happen to live over the next 5-6 years. Test ride is scheduled for tomorrow.

Ok, so I have a question for experienced buyers out there. How much of a deal is it actually possible to get on a new bike? I have terrible luck/skill when it comes to getting anybody to take money off a price, and I just want to know what kind of wiggle room I can shoot for on a 2022 bike in the next couple of months.

Pic below is of the bike with the price advertised at full $7,199 MSRP and fine print states that "Advertised pricing excludes applicable taxes title and licensing, dealer set up, destination, reconditioning and are subject to change without notice. Pricing may exclude any added parts, accessories or installation unless otherwise noted. Sale prices include all applicable offers. "

I plan to contact by email and request an itemized breakdown of the fees in addition to the best price out the door, minus tax as I will pay that separately. I mainly want to do this because of the dealer set up fee. I won't pay it on this bike. There just is no set up.

I haven’t seen a dealer that doesn’t charge a destination/freight fee and an assembly/setup fee but everything is negotiable. If you don’t want to pay it then just refuse and maybe you’ll get the bike or maybe you’ll walk away empty handed.

A lot of it depends on your market area too. I’m in SoCal where bikes sell themselves so it’s hard to find the same type of deal that are common in other parts of the country. If anything, there’s advertised “no dealer fees” but the freight/destination/assembly fees are still there and I’ve never been able to negotiate those down in three purchases.

Right. I understand the freight fee, and even set up for some bikes, but I've seen this bike unboxed. There is nothing to set up. You have to screw on the windscreen, mirrors, hook up the battery, and check the oil. If it's a $20 fee, I wouldn't care, but I'm guessing a dealer is going to add a zero to that.

I guess I should clarify that I'm not really concerned with the name attached to the dollars spent, but more on the total out the door cost. I'm in Wyoming, so Motorcycles are usually dirt bikes or harleys, and you can only use them for a short time because it's cold 7-9 months here. Is there generally any wiggle room in prices, whether that's waived fees or below MSRP, or do I just have to pay what they ask if I want a bike?

That's called pure profit for the dealer.

Try finding 2022 (or even 2021 if they're sitting) models. It helps to be shopping for a bike that's not in demand. I'm not sure about the market for the CB500X but when I was considering a Triumph Tiger 660 Sport I found a lot of 2022's sitting around that dealers wanted to move.

What I would do is if you can find such a bike, add all the factory accessories you want to the bike on the site, add 10% for TTL and set that as your number to shoot for (effectively getting rid of dealer freight and prep stuff). If they've got a lot of old inventory, be even more aggressive. A lot of times dealers will just want to get rid of bikes for floor space. Even if they don't bite at your number, give them your phone number and tell them to call you if they change their mind.

I have found that bike, and it is a 2022, but as far as I can tell there is no change to the '23s. So, basically getting it at MSRP plus 10% is a good deal then, or am I confusing what you are saying?

Sorry, I meant whatever they're advertising it for + 10% for TTL OTD price.

The Triumph dealer in my case knocked $500 off the asking price so that was what I went in with. They wanted way more (about $1.5k more) but after a few weeks said that they could "get close" to what I had said.

Unfortunately with this market I'm not sure if getting a bike for under MSRP out the door is feasible. I hope I'm wrong though.

Today was a sad day. I sold my CB1000R. Not having a job sucks. I sold the Tacoma on Monday (hopefully I can still hang out here!).

Ooof. Financial tightness always sucks. Everyone can hang out regardless of vehicle ownership status.

That's still an hour for a tech that they bill at $75+/hr if it was someones repair or something instead. Totally agree that three digit setup fees are silly, but I kind of get it, they're still paying someone for the time to take it out of the crate, screw things in, whatever. Definitely an issue when it's like a grand tacked on top, though. I think on the Grom I paid $97 in setup, which I'm pretty was just the amount it took to get it to an even $4500 haha

Let's not forget the $600 Honda themselves tacks on top in destination and covid freight surcharge. True, the dealer can choose not to charge you for it, but someone is paying it somewhere in the process and most of the time it isn't the dealer taking the L on it.

I usually just go in with a number in mind that I am willing to spend to walk out with a bike. If they can meet it I don’t care what they call the line items, just the final price. For this Aprilia I’m not willing to pay the extra $300 prep fee and $300 dealer document fee.

This was my issue… give me what you call your best price and we will go from there.

    98A1B20A-C4AF-4028-8EB7-B1DA93382535.jpg

    then

    6CD8DA8D-BE1C-4D10-9F3C-86B4D5C38E8B.jpg

If the place started with the second offering, I may have jumped on it, or… tried to get it down some more, but they didn’t. I know everyone is different in what they will spend but to me was that crazy. Plus they were trying to get me to sign off on a 5 year $299. Free battery replacement. They didn’t tell me about that and we’re trying to sneak it in.

After turning it down they have since texted me (3times) saying they can do a better price. Don’t get me wrong… Im not looking for the price displayed on the manufacturer’s website, as I know I will not walk out at that price. Buuuut I’m not going to pay anywhere near double the price either.
