Tire Options

Still exploring my options here as my delivery date draws nearer….If I were to not lift my 2023 TRD pro and just wanted bigger tires on my stock rims, is this possible, if so what tire size in inches? Ideally with a slight negative offset if possible to stick out a bit. I know this is nuanced so please a detailed answer if anyone could.

I am exceptionally ignorant to tires and related info, trying to learn here so please answer this in a simple way not assuming I know much please.

I went to 265 75 16. It doesn't require a speedometer adjustment, and actually made it more accurate.

BTW, don't be that guy with tread popping out the fender. Rocks get kicked out at other vehicles. Windshields are expensive.

Just enjoy it and drive it as is for awhile so you'll know how a stock trd pro rides/drives. Stock pro tires are not too bad . Bigger and heavier tires will affect ride and performance .

 

265/75/16 is about 1" taller than factory. If you get 17" wheels a 265/70/17 is the same overall size but on 17" rims. Either of those are the same width or possibly about 3/4" wider depending on exactly which factory tires you get.

That is as big as you can go without modifying the truck. And there aren't really any downsides. You'll never notice any difference in fuel mileage or performance as long as you stay with a similar tread. An aggressive mud tire will cost you about 2 mpg vs an All-Terrain tire. In fact, that is a more common size, and you'll find more options and often at better prices than the factory sizes.

I have the dura tracs on my pro in the 265 75 16

 

How did this impact your MPG?

 

I am usually 14L per 100 so 16.8 mpg I do drive pretty conservatively. Might get 18 mpg on all highway.

 

You could also go the 33" Pizza cutter route. 255/85/16 or 255/80/17. More choices in the '17 size.

I'm going to give them a try, just can't decide on which, the Toyo or Yoko.

 

If you're worried about MPG you should have bought a Carolla Hybrid. You'll be lucky to average 18 mpg in your Tacoma, in fact you should expect in the 16's no matter what tire you run.

 

I will look next time I go outside and take a look but I am guessing the C

 

I’m not 100% but I think white letters are C and E doesn’t have them. So if yours are turned in they may be C. I could be wrong though

 

255/75r17, 235/85r17, 265/70r17, and 265/75r16 are your options.

Your truck will bog down significantly with wheels that weigh more than 25lbs and/or tires that weigh more than 50lbs.

Most all terrains will reduce MPGs by 1-4 depending on size and rolling resistance.

My personal recommendation is Nokian Outpost AT.

 

Be prepared for tremendous losses in acceleration and driveability. This size really requires regearing.
